England do have a really difficult group - indeed there's more to fear in there than in the potential last 16, but unless there is an early shock they would be almost certain to meet Spain or Brazil in the quarters - unless Chile fulfil their possibilities, that is.

I'm doing my attempt at caring about international football again. So far I can only muster up the enthusiasm to say that England should always wear red. It always looks better than the white kit - and so much better than the range of other alternative colours we've had down the years.

But, anyway, England should get out of their group. I know we're talking down their chances but they only need to win two from there and should target Italy and Costa Rica for those - and expect to get severely bruised in their encounter with Uruguay. Italy are slow-starters and whilst no one should underestimate Costa Rica, we're not Scotland so we should we beat them whilst respecting them.

Not there are billions there but the Owls takeover looks like it's on - being able to look outside the Bosman zone of the transfer market and compete with the clubs blessed with Premier failure payments will be a new experience!

thought he did quite well with the penalty, despite al the jiggery-pokery before the actual kick .. Mind you would've been even better if he'd actually saved it.

I sincerely hope that ref won't be doing any more games.

I think Brazil might struggle in a match with a decent ref and against a good goalie.
