Oh for a better tournament than 2010, the worst I have ever seen with dozens of mediocre teams (including England), dull games, vuvuzuelas and a brutal final to finish it....

On the subject of the World Cup it was brought to my attention on Radio 4's Reunion on Friday a.m. that England won the Jules Rimet before, apparently in 1966...this was a complete surprise to me...I tell you, if it had been Scotland who had won we would never have heard the end of it.
Anyway I can't understand how I missed this particular episode of the Reunion on Radio 4 first time it was on.
Three of England's 1966 World Cup winners join Sue MacGregor to recall the triumph.

Spoiler alert: Apparently they beat West Germany and some people thought it was all over....

I've just heard Glen Hoddle chatting on sky before the Arsenal-West Brom match. He referred to playing under Wenger at Monte Carlo. I had completely forgotten about this.

              And short shorts.

Chelsea 0 Norwich City 0. Looks like the title is heading to the unmentionable place.

From my perpective, Norwich have just prevented that from happening.

So it looks like Morinho's negative tactics have spoilt Liverpool's chance of an historic premiership title. I was a big admirer of the chosen one, now I have no respect for him whatsoever.

I wonder if Everton were not that disappointed to lose yesterday, as a win might have handed the title to their Merseyside rivals. Surely not

The crowd were very quiet, knowing that their three points for a win would not only help Liverpool but also would ultimately not help them to fourth place, which Arsenal were more or else sure of. They might have been more up for it if Champions league had still been a possibility. (Palace spoilt their party there).

The news from Wrexham finally filters through to the Radio 3 massive. The part-timers of Aberystwyth Town gave the tedious full-timers of TNS the shock of their lives for 70 odd minutes. We led 2-0 after a frenetic opening 15 minutes but by the end were running on vapours -going down 3-2 to an 88th minute winner for the franchise from Oswestry*. The Mighty Black & Greens had the overwhelming majority of the 1,200 crowd and at the end it was our voices drowning out those of the victors. Sad to lose but it was a great day and a magnificent performance.

(* Yes, Oswestry is in Wales for these purposes. Those of a cynical nature might wonder why the FAW fought UEFA to keep them in their set-up. Those of a cynical nature might note that the FAW don't have any professional teams of their own so would have no way of getting co-efficient points and the like without a team like TNS who can occasionally get a result against distracted teams from the Faroes.)
