One of the most moving things I've ever seen in football was John Charles' last ever visit to Turin and the adoring Juventus fans ( and players )

Well remembered, amateur ... you're obviously even more elderly than I imagined .. ... and there was another fine Welsh player around that time, also from Swansea, by the name of Ivor Allchurch, though the free (if not always accurate) Wikipedia informs me that his parents were born in Dudley, so the English would have probably viciously purloined him these days, unless he had a Scottish granny, of course, in which case they would have had no chance ..
In any event, it certainly sounds as if he was an admirably ecumenical sort of boyo, eh ... ?

Yes one of my earliest football memories is seeing the great Ivor playing for Newcastle United at St. James' Park. You forget how prolific these attacking inside forwards were. If you compare his record with that of the Welsh "striker" Wyn Davies both for the Magpies and over their careers Ivor has a much better goals per game rate.

well Swansea won in some style, especially the third goal, from inside his own half!
will be an interesting contest with Reading in the Championship Play Off Final ...
Cardiff and Nottingham Forest keep losing in the play off stages ....According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

So sad Blackpool have gone down ... such an attractive football-playing team and a real independent character of a man and manager in Ian Holloway.
The English Premiership will be much the poorer without both ...
