One of the most moving things I've ever seen in football was John Charles' last ever visit to Turin and the adoring Juventus fans ( and players )

Well remembered, amateur ... you're obviously even more elderly than I imagined .. ... and there was another fine Welsh player around that time, also from Swansea, by the name of Ivor Allchurch, though the free (if not always accurate) Wikipedia informs me that his parents were born in Dudley, so the English would have probably viciously purloined him these days, unless he had a Scottish granny, of course, in which case they would have had no chance ..

In any event, it certainly sounds as if he was an admirably ecumenical sort of boyo, eh ... ?

They don't make players like Ivor, nowadays.
        Or do they ?

Yes one of my earliest football memories is seeing the great Ivor playing for Newcastle United at St. James' Park. You forget how prolific these attacking inside forwards were. If you compare his record with that of the Welsh "striker" Wyn Davies both for the Magpies and over their careers Ivor has a much better goals per game rate.

Well, I thought we had a better season, in the end when Mr pardew took over! I thought OMG!! But hey, who can tell?

Pity that Accrington Stanley lost in the play offs!

well Swansea won in some style, especially the third goal, from inside his own half!

will be an interesting contest with Reading in the Championship Play Off Final ...

Cardiff and Nottingham Forest keep losing in the play off stages ....

I'm delighted that Wimbledon has made it into the football league, only 9 years after the club began. The downside is that it was at the expense of Stockport County

                    congrats to Wimbledon!

watching final score on one of the tightest ever final days in the Premier League still not resolved .... utterly gripping

don't think Wolves deserve it , real shame that Blackpool needed the win to stay up ... ..great season

So sad Blackpool have gone down ... such an attractive football-playing team and a real independent character of a man and manager in Ian Holloway.

The English Premiership will be much the poorer without both ...

I am gladwe made 9th place. i suppose it has to do with the board'sdecision in hiring a manager that doesn't win leagues!!

Agreed. Sad for County but nice to see Wimbledon now only one division away from the plastic dons.

the big game tonight; i shall not know who to support tho i guess i will be most pleased if MU win despite being a Lunnun Blue Boy ... however my most fervent wish is for a great game, both clubs have the pedigree for an entrancing football match ....and may the best team on the night win ...
