Yes, a fine goal, but I'm not entirely convinced Ibrahimovic actually meant to score. Well, rather he simply intended to direct the ball back towards goal. Even if the intention was to score directly, the goal was poorly defended with the goalkeeper stranded out of position. The overhead kick certainly required great skill but we might expect all top professional players to be able to execute that reasonably well?
Imho certainly nowhere near 'the greatest goal ever scored'.

Imho certainly nowhere near 'the greatest goal ever scored'.According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Hmmm. I've watched it again ... as I say a fine goal, no argument about that ... but even the player admits it was half-luck, half-skill, and I think that's a pretty accurate assessment ... certainly not worth the overblown praise the BBC are attaching to it ... maybe I've just been spoit being brought up watching the incontrovertibly extraordinary likes of Partick Thistle?
Anyway, this was better ...

That Ibrahimovic goal was pretty good, and the Carlos Alberto one mentioned by ER brings back memories of the best team there has ever been (imo) but how about this as a goal - and in a World Cup knock-out game too?:
Diego Maradona scores a stunner against England in the 1986 World Cup - right after the famous 'Hand of God' goal.
(Never mind his first one in that game )

Pity the England defence couldn't tackle.

I can't decide whether it's the save or the David Coleman commentary that made this something so momentous.

Still haven't seen Mr Happy's goal, but in any case, I think that you will find that this is the greatest goal ever scored!!
Note who the "defending" team is and the year.
Fantastic team goal from Southampton, finished off by Mick Channon, against Liverpool in the 1981/82 season. In my (slightly biased) opinion, the greatest go...
Enjoy .I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Nice article, and a special goal. Were you there, ER?
Timing matters in goals. Steve Moran's winner at Nottarf Krap in injury time in the cup in 1984 wasn't the best goal you will ever see....but it's in all Saints fans top 5 I reckon.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
