    I make it Hodgson's England - W 5 D 1 L 1 - on penalties. Has any manager had a better start?

    York City - W 1 D 1 L 1 and getting better. 12th of 24 on the Minstermen's return to the league.

There is also a Premiership apparently.
In which case 80th of 92!

What an odd argument. I suppose next you will be saying that Swansea City are 2nd of 92. Sorry but I won't believe it.

Or the mighty Owls are 22nd out of 92 and should they be there come May, they will then become 19th out of 92.

A tweet from Gary Lineker at the weekend: “Proper Sunday, football, roast for lunch, bottle of Lynch Bages ’86 and more football.”

The average price of a bottle of ch Lynch Bages 1986 is about £136. Can be a fair bit more, unlikely to be a great deal less.

                Sounds great!

I've not drunk Ch Lynch Bages '86 BUT I did once share a bottle of Ch Lynch Bages '61 in a back garden in Herefordshire with a wonderful local steak - a moment or two of very heaven it was

... o, I thought it was a sign of how underpaid the lovely Gary is that he has to make do with such a 'middling' wine...

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

I am pleased to say that I had never heard of Chateau Lynch Bages. Lineker has not been the same since marrying Ms Buxom.

There was a time when players were selfless, courageous, and married to someone called Marjorie. The following article from 2000 is a museum piece. It was the last one ever to be written about a footballer that included the line "money meant little to him".

George Armstrong, the former Arsenal winger, one of the heroes of their famous 1971 League and Cup double side, and latterly reserve team coach, has died suddenly after collapsing on the club's Hertfordshire training field, aged 56.

                              ... why "pleased"?

Is unawareness of something something to be 'pleased' about?

Yes definitely. A little knowledge is a spice but too much of it detracts from the pleasure of what is being consumed.

Knowing something is a lake is helpful for identification and hence enhancing. Becoming aware that it is a kettle lake is to conspire with man's imperialism to the extent that its natural aesthetic quality is removed. In essence, a lake isn't a human label.

To maximise enjoyment, everything must be in its place too. To partake of a mug of tea and a meat and potato pie on the terraces is to be devout. Being a presenter of a football programme who drinks Chateau Lynch Bages is the same as being someone who attends church every week especially to swear during the sermon. This would also very much be true of the football supporter.

Plus there is a point about economic value. I find it satisfying seeing rings being sold on the shopping channel for £900, knowing that I wouldn't give tuppence for any of them. It helps me to know that I am closer to reality than many. That's valuable.
