Depends which Board you're on, aly - they're disabled on some of the "Political" Threads to stop members using icons to express "disapproval" of another poster (or their ideas) as has happened.

They are disabled deliberately in the Politics & Current Affairs section:

I've noticed that they seldom (never?) seem to work until one has clicked 'Preview Post' for the first time.
Oh... never had that problem, no idea why that might be!

As I understand it, the forum's organisers buy a weekly allowance to keep the riff raff amused. If a couple of these people go berserk early in the week or appropriate stock for themselves, there may be a limited choice or even nothing at all left for others later on...

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
