Good luck to the Irish today. Sorry to see O'Connell out but they should have enough to just about get past the Argentinians.

The Scots need a bit more than luck to progress but hope springs eternal.

John, if you're not from the southern hemisphere you're nobody.

Yeah, Padraig, you got a bit argybargied out of it in the first ten minutes. We're still in it at half time - last left standing, but nerves spring eternal!

Sorry to hear that the Ozzies managed to snatch the lead back again in the last few minutes to win. Sounds a brave effort by both sides.

what a finish to the Scotland game.
bad luck JC and Scotty Tips, a whisker and a couple of errors away from a famous victory.

.... unless, of course, you're Scottish.

Really sorry for Scotland's loss yesterday. They deserved to win and unfortunately that referee had a complete shocker, particularly the wrong penalty decision near the end. He is known to have ruined World Cup games before and it is a mystery why the tournament organisers ever chose him for an important knock-out game. Still, it's the best I have seen Scotland play for ages.

I feel a lot worse about it today than yesterday, aeolium - yesterday it felt like just another glorious failure, but today I feel Scotland were denied a serious crack of getting to the final by a poor bit of refereeing. Scotland have looked like a really good unit during this tournament, together, resilient, able to adapt to the play and taking their chances when they came along, which has been missing from Scotland's play these last few years. I was interested that Gavin Hastings described referee Joubert running off the field at the final whistle without shaking hands with the teams as "the worst thing I have seen on a rugby field in a very long time". Joubert knew he'd messed up but that feels like little consolation today. I feel desperately sorry for the team and manager this morning.

Oh, the supreme irony: on ITV this p.m., World Cup semis. Oz vs Arg.
And on BBC? Like the British BBC? NFL.

A fine performance in two halves.
Shame the window has closed, Huw Jones would do well for Saints I reckon.
