....I played Rugby until I was 25 in Bristol (which takes in South Gloucester and North Somerset too)....with a choice of easily 100++ different clubs to play against - and each team would have First, Seconds, and Thirds at least, and of course Juniors - some even having Forths. Starting at 16 playing for the Firsts, my team mates were Teachers, Estate Agents, Insurance Agents, Engineers....9 years on I finished playing with Dockers, Builders, Road workers (scarey lot)....Some teams were more ferocious and well organised than others. The Grammar School type Old Boys teams were generally not that strong....To this day my most scarey experience was playing against Dings Crusaders and very well organised and physical team, with the fastest Threequarters.
But I haven't much to do with Bristol for 40years....but I wonder - Are all those teams still there?
Some how at 5' 11" and 11st I lasted quite well but concussions, sprains, dislocations, knee lig damage....have added up and most of my pains I have now result from those years....and of course I had to go to college/work on the Monday morning....The players were naturally tough, fit, resilient - no real training regimes in place....and some like me were skinny (wirey I like to think) and some with enormous beer bellies....

A true disaster, a death of a once skilled game. Parents now increasingly calling for their kids to be taken out of this bar-room / street-fighting made compulsory in some schools.

Sharpe? John? Edwards? Forget them as Jones drives English rugby union into a very dark place.

Because, to beat such teams, everyone else has to adopt the same 'tactics'.
Very much so....Richard Sharpe my hero (I'm blond too) but he played at a time dominated by the Welsh...Ben Youngs for all his 100 caps STILL cannot do a decent box kick (not that I consider a box kick a consistently decent way to make ground)....England have become predictable - as was shown in WC Final....if Jonny May doesn't score twice in first ten minutes they struggle...

Ireland were terrific yesterday - great performance and there must be a few players who placed themselves firmly in the Lions squad. Even down to 14, they never looked in any danger. Scotland a bit disappointed...they should have beaten Wales and could have got something from the Ireland game. A lot to play for against the French next week.

If you have any Welsh friends don’t ask them what Bonnie Tyler’s first hit was!

Fantastic rugby Final at Twickenham. One the most exciting, closest and highest quality matches- any sport - I have seen for a while. Well done, Harlequins, with 38-40 win over Exeter

It certainly was - 11 tries and a penalty try I think. But for me the wrong side won - long before the professional era I played 2 seasons for Exeter first XV, so that's my team. Quins just about deserved to win - less error prone. A very good afternoon.

Great win for the Scots at Twickenham yesterday in the Calcutta Cup - I certainly don't recall us getting three in a row in my lifetime. Some fantastic tries in a really exciting match up. Van der Merwe's first try was a sensation -
Watch Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe score a "sensational" solo during their thrilling 29-23 Calcutta Cup victory against England in the Six Nations.

It reminded me of the great English winger, David Duckham, in full flow - I think Duckham died in the last few weeks. Great player.

My father used to take me (as a treat!) to international matches at Twickenham and I saw JPR, JJ, Gareth Edwards, Mervyn (Mervyn?) et al. Great days.

Oh, yes. I might have guessed - Mervyn Davies . "Merv the Swerve".
