Well its a boy! The Royals kept the news private for about 4 hours. Presenter Kay Burley on Sky News, camped outside the hospital all day, has been running around the street microphone in hand like mad woman. I'm going for a lie down!

The Belgians seem to be interested.

I put them straight on this, and one or two other things.
Well the ones I met,at any rate.

Yes, but Kay Burley has always come across as a mad woman.

Am I the only member to be relieved that it's a boy? All this irritating feminist sexist talk in the media about how wonderful it would be if it were a girl following the recent changes to succession laws. No doubt in accordance with management political correctness they were all 'predicting' (or had 'a feeling') it would be a girl.

As usual they were all hopelessly wrong ...

No. I am very disappointed it was not a girl, it would have focussed the minds of certain countries, such as Canada, who won't recognise that changing the act of succession is a necessary thing (the law has not yet been agreed by all Commonwealth countries btw)

Surely in view of the fact the new Royal baby has been born on the day that Barenboim's Ring opens at the Proms, the name to be given to our future king should be...Alberich!

Ah, but their previous monarch had the sense to abdicate.

Some nincompoop on the only news I saw earlier in the day was predicting a girl because dad is a helicopter pilot and has lots of testosterone.

It's been a TV news-free zone here this evening. (The constant noise since early on of choppers over the Bingo Wing have been notice enough today of what's going on...)

Could well be one of the names, certainly, but I'm sure tradition will prevail.

Can we do a Lucky 15?

No, I'm relieved as well (though I accept Anna's point). It removes constitutional uncertainty, given that not all realms have legally agreed the changes. Also if it had been a girl, we'd have never heard the end of it from Cameron and Clegg claiming to have made royal women equal.

Bet Uncle Harry's pleased. Probably working out how soon he can take the little fella clubbing ...
