Sad news indeed - a genuinely funny man - that expressive face - I thought 'Colin's Sandwich' was very good though it was not universally praised - Alas Smith and Jones good but you could see the Two Ronnies as the role model. RIP Mel.

Yes , could really make you laugh. Kind of grew up with Mel and the others.
Remember the "Bridge" sketch where they find out that they are both Buddy Holly fans?

Off the top of my head, I don't remember that sketch

Very sad. The pair of them used to come into Lime Grove and record wonderful improvised voice overs for some of their film sketches.and Mel was particularly brilliant.
These were short sessions because they got it right with deceptive ease!

That type of comedy is still streets ahead of some of the mindless stand up which passes for it today.

Yes sad news . I loved Not the Nine O'Clock News in particular, rather more than Alas Smith and Jones .

He also directed that charming first Richard Curtis film the Tall Guy and was a good straight actor seen only this year of course as the harassed hotel manager in Dancing on the Edge
