    I tend to agree, jb, although the novels do actually give the hint of an unpleasant, village gossipy side to the character, which GM brings out to the full.

    Marvellous actress, Geraldine McEwan. I was enthralled by her performance as that unbearable harridan, Mrs Proudie, in The Barchester Chronicles; and, also in the 80s, as that insufferable snob, Lucia, in the rather delectable Carlton adaption of Mapp and Lucia.
