RIP Jimmy Gibb, piano teacher extraordinaire (1918 - 2013)

James Gibb, much loved piano teacher notably at the Guildhall School, died last month.

    Lovely biography here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obit...ames-Gibb.html

He taught a couple of friends and I met him once or twice, wonderful bloke with a roguish Tyneside twinkle...

Didn't know this: "Among his many students was the broadcaster Stephen Plaistow, with whom he enjoyed a four-handed keyboard partnership..." (SP being possibly my favourite R3 reviewer).

    RIP James Gibb
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks for that Caliban. I didn't know him but was at his proms debut with the Dohnanyi Variations in 1949 with MS.

    RIP James Gibb
