Demise of Thos Cook European Rail Timetable

This news item caused something of a pang, as the timetable has been invaluable in planning several European trips over the years. It must feel to some as the last publication of Bradshaw did to earlier rail travellers 50 years or so ago. I don't think any online equivalent could match its elegant layout with the wealth of detail about specific trains.

    A sad day

Agreed. I think Thomas Cook has been in trouble for a while now.

Maybe someone else could publish a rice-paper version suitable for cramming into the rucksack?

Sorry this appears twice - either I'm doing something wrong, or my aged netbook is really no longer up to its job.

I shouldn't worry, but duplicated/unwanted messages of one's own can be deleted by going "Edit", then clicking "delete" and on the delete circle in the box underneath that.

It's known as "rationalisation", saly, and fulfilling the sacred law (to capitalism's wealthy beneficiaries and apologists) of "supply and demand". In other words, anarchy, basically. You demand; they don't supply.

How did I come to miss both the news and this thread?

I have travelled thousands of miles throughout Europe for years with my timetables - always a talking point with fellow travellers who want to look up routes and times themselves. There are various trustworthy websites but I doubt they would be as immediately available even with iPads and smartphones than the good old hard copy. I haven't kept every one but the earliest - the TC International Timetable 1980 - I still have, and the last one I used, about five years ago. Alas

That blog was dated 1 July. I hope it's the August one that will be the last. Must have

Pah! Shows I haven't bought one for a few years: they're now down to twice yearly instead of monthly ... must run ...

The article did say a rescue was mooted, so perhaps all is not lost and an eccentric Chemin de fairy angel will appear. :)
