Aluminium type deodorants must surely be bad for a person.
Interesting comment from S_A re his almost veggie status and pongery. i am mostly meat free these days, but haven't had any comments either way about how it has affected me niff wise.

Raw coconut oil is a superb "natural " deodorant (and skin care product) that I wholeheartedly recommend.

I do think that S_A's almost veggie status has made his "jokes " more frequent, and possibly worse. no offence.

      That is cr*p, SA.

What is under roof sealing, though?
obviously, it is sealing under a roof, but...more specifically...why/when is it needed?

        Aren't most ceilings under roofs?

And why is it "roofs" and not "rooves"?

It was polystyrene insulation sprayed onto the undersides of the roof tiles, between the rafters, and cost me dad a small fortune. Five years later into the 20 year guarantee water began seeping through. The company had gone bust. If this method is still being offered, don't touch it!

It could be, I suppose, though I can't find a dictionary that gives 'rooves'. 'Hoofs' and 'hooves' are both acceptable. According to Tolkien, 'dwarfs' is the only acceptable plural - he used 'dwarves' to distinguish his characters from the fairy-tale dwarfs, although I suspect that his spelling has now become the norm). because of the popularity of his books.

The word 'roof' is from the Anglo-Saxon hrof, so the F is older. The plural would have been hrofen. When we adopted the northern dialect -s for plurals during the middle ages, the juxtaposition of F and S would have encouraged a V sound quite naturally, so many nouns ending in F acquired V plurals - but that didn't banish the older spellings.

                    Msgs 80 -82 - fascinating!

How does this thread "The General Chat Room" differ from what was formerly Platform 3? That still exists, but maybe few people go there now. Does the presence of this thread indicate a continuing "need"?

I started this thread, as I thought there was a need fopr a more 'general purpose' place where people could just say waht they feel like (within the permits ofcourse), without any prepurpose thought. Where have a chat, as if live, on the odd ocaaision.

It's difficult to put a date on it. It was certainly around the 18th century when spellings began to settle down (largely as the printed word became more common). The -s ending for plurals was earlier - Shakespeare uses both -s and -en, but much more often the former. The Authorised Bible uses both, but -en is perhaps more common (but the Authorised Bible is notably conservative).

Yes; a general, non-confrontational Thread for frequently daft, often informative banter?

Ah - you are so right. I tend to access the boards via the New Posts nowadays, so I don't always notice where postings are hosted.

Perhaps the GCR is slightly more serious than the Waffle threads which we used to have - perhaps elsewhere, and of course the Cheers thread of King Kennytone fame.

                                Thanks for the tip TS.

Virgin coconut oil is the only one we cook with. When heated, it doesn't go rancid so easily like olive oil; in fact it has the highest smoking temperature of all cooking oils, and is an excellent fat for the body because it contains lauric acid. Although a saturated fat, coconut oil is made up of medium-chain fatty acids which the body easily burns up quickly, so it is not converted to cellulite.

Stored at room temperature, it has been known not to show rancidity even after one year - amazing stuff!
