Oh, good hunting, Bbm. Back in 1985, I was greatly tempted by an attic flat overlooking the sea in Hastings: the price was around £18,500 (nicely on the "three times my salary" region back then) - only the prospect of moving from London to East Sussex, together with that of having to commute every morning and evening to and from Eastbourne and that of starting a new job all at once dissuaded me from adding "get Mortgage and buy first property" to the list. I often wonder what it would have been like if I'd bought it: terrific views; wonderful walks - but a bit low on headroom in some parts for someone over six foot tall!

I take it you've never been on HMS Victory? I'm just 5'2'' and it was amusing to see just children and me walking round normally while everyone else was bent double!

No - but I have been below deck on the Cutty Sark, where similar limboid postures were necessary.

A musician friend of mine happens to live in a house overlooking the sea at Hastings. At about 500 feet above the shore, on clear days he can see the French coast; but I have to say it's a pretty draughty location, and the Greensand cliffs it sits on are subject to undermining, as was dramatically demonstrated in the gales at the end of last year.

Gawd! It were windy, but not too bad. Saw just the one property, looks promising.

Hello everyone. On another forum that I frequent, posts are displayed with the latest ones first. Is that possible in this forum. The other forums format is very similar to this one but its blue and white not red and white.

Probably the easiest way is to select "New Posts" from the top left hand of the page.

Alternatively, click on "Settings" (top right of the page you're looking at, to the immediate left of "Log Out")

Go down the column on the Left-hand side of the "Settings" page, until you reach "My Settings" - down to "My Account" - and then click on "General Settings"

In the main column on the page you've just got to, go all the way down to "Thread Display Options", then down again to "Thread Display Mode", and click on the Box therein and chose "Linear - Newest First"

... and you'll get what you want.

And welcome to the Forum, sidneyf

I use ferney's way - much simpler to set than than it appears. Should be the default setting really - starting every visit at the first post of hundreds, even thousands is ridiculous

And don't forget that on the What's New? list, clicking the little blue chevrons to the right of the last poster on each thread takes you to that last post anyway: you don't have to start at Post 1 every time and click through to the last page.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                              Same here.

Ah, that was never a problem for me, because I always use the "What's New?" link to find things. I reset because certain Threads were taking so long to load.

The disadvantage of the "Newest First" is that it doesn't mark my own replies as having been read on the "What's New?" page - something that wasn't a feature of the default arrangement. (And one frequently reads posts referring, say, to "post 56 above", when it's now "below".)
