The fellow who designed the new generation of computers for Apple in about 1980 (I can't recall his name) had a favourite Californian apple - the McIntosh - and he named the programme after it (but had to spell it Macintosh for copyright reasons!).

The posh schools round here seem to be increasing term lengths, giving better value for money, and fitting in with the 24/7 world very nicely.

It's "Historically Informed Performance" (I think the extra "P" represents "Practices" but I may be corrected about that bit)... it's the alternative (and shorter!) way of referring to 'authentic' or 'original' instrument performances and techniques
