..caught the middle and later stages of today's ladies' match between the Pole and the German and was appalled by the partisan approach of the commentators who were forever praising Lisicki for shots even when they failed "she tried something amazing there.."( it went out) and offering suggestions "attack her forehand.." whereas the Polish girl, let's call her Agnes, was characterised as a robot. Even in the 8 o'clock "Today at ..." the cursory handshake at the end was blamed entirely on the loser.

But, hey, the one left after Martina departed opined that the final between the two ladies would be " competitive". She's worth every penny, don't you think?

So was I. The crowd too seemed very partisan, though I have no idea why.

I don't really care who wins Wimbledon, but to add interest to the matches I have decided to support the Polish players - this afternoon, too. I'm not interested in Murray. My daughter-in-law is half Polish, so that's my rather vague reason.

Really, Mary? The crowd (and BBC commentators) warmed to the German girl because of her infectious enthusiasm and smiling demeanour on court. It completely destroyed stereotypical notions especially as it was the Pole who looked more like the stern, unsmiling example of German efficiency!

I hope Lisicki wins the title. I hope Murray wins too. He has had to put up with so much anti-Scottish garbage in the English media which has never really forgiven him for being an even better British tennis player than the still greatly revered, Blessed Timothy Henry Henman, OBE.

I agree - I thought the commentators gave both players a fair wind, it was just an extraordinary match, with Lisicki losing nine games on the trot including five service games. Amusing article in today's Times by Simon Barnes, who refers to Radwanska's "brilliant, cerebral tennis" - he says "Lisicki's tactic is to get into a position from which victory is logically impossible. Once she gets there, she finds the resources to win". He advises her in the final at all costs to avoid getting into a winning position.

          I hope Murray wins too.
So do I. It will make it much easier to enjoy next year's Wimbledon

I'm certainly not anti-Scottish, Scotty. I have family roots in Luss on Loch Lomond. It's just that I rather object to giving blind support to someone because of nationality, if that someone does not appeal. I'm only very vaguely favouring Poland because it's more fun to watch if one supports someone, for whatever reason. I don't feel remotely strongly about it. At school I strongly objected to being expected to support my house teams even if the people I liked were in another house.

I hardly ever watch the end of matches, because I hate seeing people lose. I prefer to find out afterwards.

Take no notice - I must be one of the least sporty people on earth.

I hope Murray wins because a) I cannot understand why people are so against him and so therefore I support him, and b) anyone who can eat 50 pieces of sushi a day certainly deserves a medal.

Yes Anna, I hope he wins too because when I played tennis at 17 or so I was always hearing about, was it Bunny Austin, who won in 1936 or thereabouts and no Brit since.

Personally I think the pressure of knowing that is enough to put anyone off their game

                      Here's a picture of it

Del Potro eats lots of steak

They've shown some close-ups which make clear why they need to change balls so often. They're really flattening them - this is a real slugging match.

That semi-final with DelPotro and Djokovic was one of the best I've watched.

A staggeringly good game Saly. Am going to have to take a turn round the garden, and fortunately I'm cooking, I don't think I could take another match from the sofa....

I know what you mean. I had a short nap on my bed half way through the last match. The heat and the tennis - all too much - a cup of tea calls now.

We know that DelPotro's diet majors on steak ... please tell me that Djokovic is a coffee éclair fiend

                                I don't think so, he eats a gluten-free diet
