The one I can't stand is Tracey Austin. Does anyone else on earth have a voice like that? I have to use the mute button.

A few million from the same part of the US, I would guess...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Voice, not accent! I'm not sure that quality of voice can be influenced by where people come from, but perhaps it can.

Just been listening to Navratilova commentating on the Lisicki-Kanepi match - an entertaining and perceptive commentator

The forthcoming match between Lisicki and Radwanska promises to be a good one I reckon.

I was sorry to see Li Na knocked out. I fancied her / chances ( delete where compromising !! )

Marion's father is Doctor Bartoli - well, nearly an operatic double..

Pronunciation niggle: A final "e" is not silent in German (Walküre, Heine, Goethe, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik), hence Sabine (Lisicki) should come out as something like "zabeener" not "s'been".

I was surprised to see this thread [although I started it!] as so Autumnal up to now today.

A moan about trying to record matches on my hard drive on the TV. As soon as I leave it, the channel changes and I have an entirely different, unwanted, programme. With all the red button channels it's pot luck

As mentioned in my msg#9 above, saly. Remember, you read it here first. Very annoying, isn't it?

Mangerton, wonderful post of yours. It says it all better than I could. Yes it is [blank] annoying, especially when they say the match one wants is on 302. My box doesn't recognise 302 apparently.

most of the time 301 is the main Wim' channel (as it is for most things when they say press the red button.....)....

I've noticed two issues - matches moving between BBC1 and 2 on the whim of Sue Barker, and switching from one match to another when something ususual is happening on a different court e.g. shock defeat or someone falling over. At least by Sunday there'll be only one match left to speak of!

This is done for reasons of the ratings. There is a ratings war between BBC1 and ITV. Consequently, when a match is getting good ratings it moves to BBC1 in order that the BBC can claim higher ratings for BBC1 vis-a-vis ITV1

Is Murray playing today.? I can see men's doubles on and Sue was burbling about two other matches, one on the mysterious 302 which is a blank screen on my TV.
