And Nadal losing his first set to an unknown Belgian.....
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The 'unknown Belgian''s mum tweets to say she knows who he is ... and points out he's two sets ahead now

        b..b..blimey!

Steve Darcis beats Rafael Nadal 7-6 7-6 6-4 in the first round of Wimbledon.

Is this good for Murray? (I don't understand seedings)

Early days - there are so many strong players. Murray is seeded to meet Jokovic in the final....

After Cardiff, I was wondering how they could mix it up a bit - that Croatian bass-baritone looked as if he might be a useful tennis player. Daniele de Niese could share the post-match interviews with Sue Barker.....

            No look-in for Sir Cliff?

I'm sorry Nadal's gone. I know I should be cheering on Murray and I am, but Nadal is rather appealing and 'human' and has a certain something that our Andy lacks.Charm perhaps

Federer is a Swiss machine but if Murrey doesn't win, then I hope Djokovic does.

              Early days yet.

Andy has to beat Federer to get a crack at Djokovic, but with Nadal out his task is that bit easier. I think Andy might do it this time. I'll go with him, early days or not.
Damn it! I feel guilty even watching these players playing for so much money, and the naked power of the play! And the partisanship displayed by the crowd, and the triumphalism of the players, and their condescension and posing and screeching, and....... wait..........
I've just remembered I decided last year that I would view no more. Come back Ken Rosewall.

I dream of reading this on the BBC website:

"Wimbledon fortnight is with us again. This gives us carte blanche to alter the TV schedules on a whim, at a moment's notice. If tennis is scheduled on BBC2 and someone we deem to be of great public interest is playing, we'll reschedule the match to BBC1, because it is the main channel, and we think the great British tennis watching public are too stupid to change channels themselves. We realise that this completely messes up people who have set PVRs to watch tennis, or not watch tennis. We realise too that of the 60 million who live in the UK, only relatively few are interested in tennis, so we annoy more people than we please.

If mangerton, Dundee, is reading this, please don't bother to write, phone, or email us to complain about these matters. If you do, we'll once again regurgitate the same self serving drivel that we've sent you for the last thirty years or so. We're the BBC, we're in charge, we can do no wrong, and what we say goes. If you don't like it, tough.

For further information on this BBC policy, see various threads on the 'for3.org' website."

That at least would be an honest policy statement.

Good point, manger ton but, as it reads just now, it's not nearly patronising enough to be a BBC statement.

I'd rather be listening to music.

Oh,and why do they get two goes at serving?,be more interesting if they had to get it right first time!

                              Djokovic now playing Mayer.

Earlier Serena Williams had a bit of a surpise as a little known Mandy someone proved more of a problem than expected. Mandy 27 should be better known [then I will remember her surname]
