    ...and the value of nothing......

Really tedious, irritating , unrewarding, or just "Not fun" ways of spending your hard earned..

    Car tyres.
    Petrol.
Rained off Cricket matches where you get just enough play not to get a refund.
Fruit that goes off very quickly.

    Don't get me started.
Feel free to add your own.
I have left a few open goals I think.

And yes, I know the quote is about cynics.......

Car parking in places that are impossible to get to without a car. Incidentally, the French don't do this.

It's £1.40 here in St Albans. That's a whole lotta Zoverstocks lost in an hour.

Huge prices for guides for exhibitions one has already paid huge amounts just to see.

Public toilet charges, which didn't even used to be a pee for a penny.

Broken air conditioning units in cars which cost £700 to repair.

I resent how the 'voluntary donation' on venue sites (Wigmore Hall, Barbican) is automatically set at £3.00. I missed this the last time I booked. It should be set at £0.00 and then those with deep pockets can choose to add to it via the dropdown box. I expect I'm not the only one who's fallen for this sly-winking usury.

Train tickets to get to work! Takes a huge slice out of my salary (which isn't great to start off with) and I resent it like mad! And of course the fares have been going steadily up while my salary has remained static.

"A discretionary charge of 12.5% has been added to your bill."

One of the first times I met this I was then given a hard time by someone who came to talk to me. I was asked whether things were OK. I said "Yes, the food was quite good. However the service was not great and overall it was expensive".

I pointed out that discretionary meant I had the right not to pay the additional charge, and I shouldn't have to explain my reasons - othewise it's not discretionary (innit)!

This brought a further reply that "This is a brasserie" - was I supposed to infer from this that brasseries don't do service. It was, I recall one of the well known ones beginning with "L" somewhere in central London.

Are you sure that is what she said, Dave2002?
