My father in law died last summer, aged 90, Bladder Cancer. He died at home, very much in possession of his faculties until the very end, cared for by his family, including many Medical professionals. I think there is a tendency for both Professionals and non Professionals to view someone has lived that long with an air of "Well, what can we expect at that age?" and of course it is different if the person has been suffering from something severely debilitating like prolonged dementia, but when they are functioning seniors we still somehow are just not ready to let them go.

Commiserations and best wishes, BBM.
Having lost both of my parents within the past 18 months, I can well understand the strange mix of emotions that you will be feeling right now.

I found that since my father died, I only played the Chaconne from Partita No.2 for solo violin, by JSB. Since then I havn't been able to bring myself to hear music. I was like this when my younger son and a nephew of mine passed away as well.Don’t cry for me
I go where music was born

I know exactly what you are going through at this time.
I have not listened to any music on Radio3 since April 28th.
Maybe by the time the Proms start? I'm not sure.
