Is there a safe dose for paracetamol? Apart from not taking it at all, that is! Some cough, cold, flu medicine has paracetamol in, and normally the max recommended dose is 4 shots/day.

I suppose it would depend to some extent on what the in the body half life of the stuff is. I'm not greatly worried, though I did mention this to someone at work a few years ago, and she mentioned that she had known someone who had died as a result of taking Lemsip (or similar) for a while. Is there a small amount of damage each time, which accumulates, or can the body tolerate small, preferably infrequent, doses of such drugs without damage, or with repairable damage?

Paracetamol seems particularly dangerous as the margins above the recommended doses seem rather slim. That's why I'd normally take aspirin or ibubrofen instead - and yes - I do know about the supposed dangers of aspirin.

Paracetamol in some other over-the-counter products such as LemSip usually contain 1000mg of paracetamol (equivalent to two tablets).
I'm allergic to paracetamol (admittedly quite rare but horrible results) but if you have a cold, fluey symptoms, the best remedy is a stonkingly hot curry with loads of chilli, garlic, turmeric, ginger, etc., this is scientifically proven. If you merely have a headache then have a double espresso and go for a 15 minute walk in the fresh air. If you feel sick or nauseous then nibble on crystallised ginger and slices of an apple. There is no need, in everyday life, for over the counter medicines.
What has this to do with Absent Friends and Missing Persons?

It could do, if you take my grandmother's advice to people who were getting on her nerves, and go for a long walk on a short pier

        Splash.

Thanks am51, but even without skiing you can very well break a leg.

I arrived Friday Jan 10th in Switzerland, and on Sunday afternoon I stumbled across a tree root on a track I did tens of times the last 20 years or so and broke my left leg .

          That happened around 4.30 pm.
At 10 pm I was in the operation theatre.

But I must say it was a not very welcome but nevertheless impressive experience, being treated in one of the two Swiss hospitals specialised in operating and treating damage caused by ski-accidents.
That's the irony of life: avoiding skiing because I want to keep my limbs in a good condition and then ending up in a such a hospital....

thank goodness I was released in time to attend a concert in Zürich (Haitink/Tonhalle/Mahler 9) which friends of mine had aranged - the very concert performed in memory of Claudio Abbado.

Very sorry to hear of your accident, Roehre, but glad as well as envious that you caught Haitink in Mahler 9.

Seems to have been a memorable holiday!

Very sorry to hear about your accident. Could you use it as an excuse for listening to the music you always wanted to listen to but have never had enough time?

I know it isn’t a laughing matter. I remember a friend who broke her leg told me how a simple thing like carrying a cup of tea became an impossible task.

              Do look after yourself.

Have we heard from Vinteuil lately? I’d have thought we’d hear a word or two about The Well-Tempered on the piano and CPE Bach on the clavichord from M.V. I hope it is no more than that he is otherwise engaged.

Where is Tony (formerly signed as Waldhorn)?

We miss his informed comment on HIPPS performances and his expertise in the techniques and performance of horn playing.

Tony has not posted any messages since December. Perhaps he is abroad somewhere, but it would be reassuring to know that he is all okay.

Get well soon, Tony - or get back to the boards to enhance the input to this forum.
