Mrs R and I survived our holidays (beginning with some extraordinary windy weather on a trans-channel ferry was quite an adventure I must say) and we enjoyed the whole lot (despite being soaked a couple of times, but that's what trekking/walking is about - so they say ).

Now beginning to do the whole after-holiday/return-business like unpacking, emails, mail, bank-accounts, washing etc etc etc

Good to see you eventually made it, BBM !

While Mrs R is doing all that and you're twiddling your thumbs, maybe you could write me a quick essay on Weinberg's String Quartets.

Welcome back Roehre, glad you enjoyed your break.

A lot of people have contacted me about our friend in the Philippines. I can only say the signs are positive but I still haven't been able to make personal contact. Given that the province where he lives was (according to the BBC map) right in the centre of the typhoon's path, he will certainly have many other things to deal with. But I'm sure we send all our thoughts and good wishes.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
