I'm sure Tim will have a great and grand send-off.
Hopefully, there will be a Forum presence?

Paradoxically, in this age of mass communication, I've noticed how much more difficult it is nowadays to find out funeral details or, indeed, who has passed away. Local newspapers fulfilled this function very well in the past but most of those have disappeared. Seems to be by Facebook and word of mouth now, neither of which can be relied upon.

If anyone does attend, it would be nice if they could pass on best wishes from the Forum.

          Message from Sue Wheeler:

"Just to let anyone who would like to attend Tim’s funeral it will be
Friday 10th March 2023 at Worth Abbey at 2pm.if you would like to attend please message me asap"

It's easy enough to find her on Facebook, but if impossible, please send me a message to forward to her.

Thanks, I missed the March 10 part. As an aside, it seems like a long time between death and funeral. I am Jewish and and we have some sort of tradition (I am a non believer so don’t take me as an expert) to have a quick funeral. Since I have moved from where I was raised, this has caused a few problems where the small interval between death and burial caused disruptions.

Yes, it is a long time. My father was a funeral director for more than 60 years (apart from his RAF war service) and would have found this length of time to be unacceptable but, sadly, that's the way it seems to be these days. He always said that a long gap was not good for the family and any longer than ten days was unusual unless there were administrative delays at the crematorium, the death was sudden and subject to an inquest or if there were suspicious circumstances with police investigation.

Jewish funerals are supposed to be within 24 hours which, as you say, can be difficult.
I had been wondering about the noticeable increase in time between death and funerals, as it has happened with two recently for friends. It seems that a combination of factors have caused delays; a large number of deaths occurring, and a lack of people to deal with the admin for releasing the body - pathologists etc - seem to be two common ones.

He's fairly active on Facebook. His most recent post there was 17 hours ago, regarding L Shankar's PhD thesis: https://www.facebook.com/10405099543...3615903814087/

I hope that some of our currently absent friends might be encouraged to investigate and contribute to the new forum, with all its quirks.
Is there a plan to email the recent users list again with an update and an invitation to try us out?

Slight problem as it would take a while to work out who had posted, who had logged in but not posted and who had disappeared. I could do a very brief one that included everyone, whether they've reappeared or not.

Currently trying to sort out the problem with the Proms threads/Calendar ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
