      One can hope.

Probably some of you will have heard this already, but I just received news of the passing of Jon Blanchard (Don Basilio), an old friend from the original BBC messageboard who I and others here have also had the pleasure of getting to know in person. If anyone would like to get in touch with his partner Philip please send me an MB and I will pass on his email address.

Yes, he posted here quite selectively - mainly on the What are you reading? thread, and he had a particular interest in literature. I'd noted that he hadn't been online for some time - I gather he'd been ill for a while. I only met him once - as it happens at a funeral. Jon
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Sorry to hear this. If I recall correctly, his avatar was a picture of Eeyore and he was an avid and quick reader, from what he posted on R3OK.

Very sad news to hear about Jon.

Yes, BBM. My first account on there was Woolley Monkey, but for the most part I was known as Walter Od (a name I derived from Walter Odington, medieval music theorist).

Sad to hear about Don Basilio, whom I remember from another forum. He always seemed a very kind and thoughtful person.

Ah yes. As you see, my name is more or less the same.

I was very sad to learn a couple of weeks ago that Miles Coverdale has passed away. A one-time lay clerk of Hereford, he was highly knowledgeable about Tudor music. It was quite quick. Apparently what he initially thought was long covid turned out to be a very aggressive throat cancer.

Very sorry to hear about Miles Coverdale - a longstanding forumite who did not post all that often but whose posts were always worth reading. He was still active on here in early September.

Its strange but it seems always to me to be better to hear of forumites no longer with us - there are other senior members who just stop posting and one wonders what has happened to them like esteemed members Ferretfancy and Mary Chambers who just stopped in 2019.
