I didn't know that. Them beaker people, eh?

The "Man" in "Isle of Man" doesn't mean "man", either - more akin to "Mountain"; the Manx equivalent of the Welsh "Ynys Mon", or "Anglesey" - which has nothing to do with Men, either - and certainly not those of the Angles or Saxon persuasion, either! (Mind you, "man" in Welsh means "place", so mebbe not .... )

Did the Even Ancienter Egyptians have maps of the Nile?

... I hope Ferney is all right.

His Today's (Tomorrow's) The Day conked out a week ago, and no sign of him since.
I've tried to PM him, but his in-box is over-clogged...

              Worried of Hammersmith...

                Me too.
I think he mentioned recently that he had some eye problem; let's hope that gets resolved if it's what's keeping him at bay.
I really hope that moderating threads that were getting out of hand hasn't caused him to quit.
At one point he was hoping to get to Richard B's concert here in York on Friday.

I'd assumed he'd gone on holiday or something.

Yes, as Pulcinella mentioned, fhg is allowing himself a bit of time to deal with an ocular issue, so understandably, reading isn’t the easiest thing at the moment. I’m sure he’ll be back very soon, equipped for even greater vigilance
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

In which case, best wishes for a good recovery, ferney, and thanks Caliban.

Hope Ferney's ocular issue gets sorted as successfully as mine was. Meanwhile, who's in charge...?
