Sorry to hear this sad news, and that her death took place so long ago which makes it worse.

Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam. May her soul be at the right hand of God.

Please note, the feminine pronoun is correctly used.

Jean's posts last autumn, disclosing her illness, were courageous and moving. I hope that, in the time that followed, she was able to listen to music that brought her comfort. My condolences to her loved ones.

I met Jean on a couple of occasions at concerts. I can't claim I knew her well, or at all, but she was very pleasant when we did meet.

That is very sad indeed. We occcasionally had disagreements, but mostly we resolved them quickly. Hers was often a voice of reason and wisdom.

                        My sincere condolences too.
Jean was quite a character! We hardly needed a pedants' corner with Jean around to act as referee. She was a learned person and always quick to give chapter and verse in reference to our grammatical or classical peccadilloes. (Have I spelt 'peccadilloes' right, Jean? ) She held strong views about many things and was not afraid to express them here on the Forum. I shall certainly miss her.

I've seen it spelt without the second E, ardy.

I have just realised that it is many months since we have heard from Stanley Stewart.

Yes but his last visit to the forum is recorded as having been on Christmas Eve although he did not post.

There are people on the forum - and in York - who should know how he is.

I hope that we will hear soon.

I mislaid his address but have now found it so will write if we don't hear anything from them.
