Entertaining (and addictive) Geography Game !!

Give this a try! You can see the world from the comfort of your armchair... and test your topographical perspicacity!!

GeoGuessr is a geography game which takes you on a journey around the world and challenges your ability to recognize your surroundings.

Study the image (you can use the navigation tools - clicking on the white arrows in the picture, using the compass to turn the view and have a look round).

Then click on the map on the location you think is depicted in the image (you can use the + and - keys to enlarge it, and slide the map around using the mouse/trackpad on your computer).

When you've selected your location, click 'make guess' and it gives you the real location (enlarge the map to see exactly where it is), how far away from the right answer you were, and your score, plus another photo. You get 5 per game.

    Bons voyages!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I just get a black screen - no picture. Have I got a Java problem?

Well done! I got 13811 points for my fifth go, first time in 5 figures - including a "Your guess was 0.012 km from the correct location and gave 6478 points" for one picture which showed some road signs so I was able to get it down to a T-junction on the D4 east of Dijon...

Working OK for me on Windows Vista!

My first effort - a featureless plain which I guessed as the Ukraine. It was Canada.

Yes there's usually one of those in each round!! My 6000+ triumph was followed immediately by another featureless plain which I guessed Argentinian pampas but turned out to be southern Montana (near Little Bighorn, interestingly enough )....

PS just bagged another "Your guess was 0.015 km from the correct location and gave 6478 points" - a village in Western Brittany: hurrah for the French and their excellent road signs!!

It's like walking a straight line after you've had a few.

There was an orthodox-y looking church with noticeboard in cyrillic-y looking script but too little resolution to read the name!

Caliban, you can always play the game on your iPad during the performance if the production is unbearable
