    Congratulations!

I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where members can offer their approval and congratulations to the achievements of others, irrespective of their fields of activity.

I am going to start the thread by offering my congratuations to the clarinettist Raymond Carpenter (the last surviving member of Silvestri's famous quartet of woodwind principals) who, on Saturday, celebrated his 91st birthday.

I've met two of the Carpenter offspring over the years, not least Nick, wonderful clarinettist with the LPO...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Daughter Julia plays violin with the BBC Scottish. Daughter Leila teaches flute. Son Jeremy is a leading singer with a Swedish Opera Company and the other son, Paul is an accountant.

Don't know how Ray ever found time to practise!

Congratulations to Roland Vaughan Rees, Barrister, organist, Head of Music at the British Council. Now 92 years old, forced to take a rest from playing at services for at least a month.

He and his wife are lifelong friends of mine, GoodLuck Roland.
