    Likelihood of tickets for Proms/ROH

I'm going to try and get a single ticket for both Tristan und Isolde (Proms) and Parsifal (ROH Dec 13). I'm not going for anything super deluxe, but not the cheapest seats either.

What does one have to do to secure tickets? Is it just a case of re-submitting the Proms planner over and over again at 9 a.m. on May 11th/calling up ROH the second the phone lines open?

Should I prepare myself for the fact I may not get a ticket for either?

Do it online and log in early on the 11th. But do NOT keep re-submitting your Proms planner. You must log in and stay there waiting with patient expectation. Do not leave the web page while it counts you down, or you will go to the back of the queue. I learned that lesson last year.

Flay is right here. As far as the Proms go (can't speak for the ROH) patience is all. I had a little trial run at logging on to the RAH site and accessing my Proms Planner at 9am this morniing. Next Saturday you will be kept in a waiting room but don't worry if you find yourself number 5000+ in the queue as the numbers drop at the rate of 1 every second. By all means, make a coffee, go to the loo or whatever but stay with it. Allow about an hour from beginning to end.

I'd say that the likelihood of getting tickets for Tristan is very good and the beauty of it is that if you do fail then you can always prom in the Arena.

I left it until mid-morning on the first Saturday of booking last year and found my number in the queue was daunting. However the hour or so passed quickly - though I only got my first choice tickets for one out of four concerts. I will try to be earlier this year. If it's like last year, the system is very efficient.

          Good luck throppers.
i can offer no useful advice other than make sure your credit card is in date, and to ask for the tickets nicely, which I know you would anyway.

Won't the Wagner crew be rather splitting their vote this year, thus upping your chances of success?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Thanks to all for the advice and good wishes.

My biggest problem looks likely to be connection to ye olde WWW, as I'm moving into a new house in perfidious Albion on Tueday. Will they manage to hook Throppers up to the Internoösphere by Saturday?!

As for the ROH - the various categories of Friend get priority booking after which there can be not a lot left, especially for Wagner. I rely on my London-based opera buddy who is a Friend but not of the most plutocratic variety for tickets: his normal experience, going online on the day booking opens, is to see an on-screen message along the lines of "There are 634 people ahead of you in the queue". It is all very stressful, apparently - I just wait nervously to hear how he got on.

The Wagner crew are not like normal people - they will be going to everything and discussing in loud voices how it simply doesn't match the Ring they saw in Dusseldorf last summer !

You have yet to meet the Stockhausen Society then

(what's so great about being "normal" anyway ?)

This is a grotesque parody and an insult to what you so patronizingly refer to as the "Wagner crew"!

NO self-respecting Wagnerian worthy of the name had a decent word for the Dusseldorf Ring last Summer: not a patch on Kiel Opera's cycle in 1972!

Oh dear. What with this opinion, Barbi's views, (obviously both well founded), and no major footy tournament, it's looking like long barren summer.......!!!

Edit, perhaps the Stockhausen society are doing some "open days".........

Super Edit: I think you will find that it was me not Barbi who initially patronised the Wagner Crew.......

Oops! I'd hoped that the <winkeye> would communicate that my post was a gentle dig at myself and other members of the crew who can get quite heated about these things, rather than a bona fide criticism of Barbi or anyone else. I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding; no offence was intended.

even I can spot a winky eye thing..and Wagner lovers are surely made of very stern stuff in any case !!

I don't think anybody could have taken offence at anything you said Ferney......as if !!!
