    Deanna Durbin RIP

Apparently she has died aged 91 - I had no idea she was still alive .

Retired at 27 to France - and a cracking rendition of Alleluia I remember .

My dad's favourite! Were he still here, he'd be upset.

      I I believe someone else actually doubled for her in ' 100 Men & a Girl '
      -
It was a major part of my conversion to music as a youngster - especially the great Leopold & Tchaikovsky 5.

She wrote in a girls' magazine that someone passed on to me so I knew she was older than me. She gave make up advice etc to kids when I was a teenager.

Was she in '100 men and a girl' - think she was.

        RIP Deanna Durbin.

Apparently in 1947 she was the highest paid star in Hollywood. That amazes me, because she is only remembered today for 100 Men and a Girl.

I was aware of Deanna Durbin's name because of a skipping rhyme I heard at primary school in the 1950s:

            Deanna Durbin
            She wore a turban
            When she was 5,6,7,8....

It was many years before I found out she was a real person.

My mother claimed to be related to Deanna Durbin, via someone called 'Mrs Baker'. We never delved very far

She was to be heard singing Gounod's Ave Maria on In Tune today at about 4.40.
