Jonathan Ross’s new bosses at ITV have asked him to shave off his beard before he starts his chat show in the autumn.

The star proudly showed off his whiskery look when he stepped out with wife Jane Goldman, 40, in London early this month.

Wossy, 50, mentioned his “summer beard” in tweets but now has told fans: “ITV don’t like it... so may have to shave it off.”

I enjoyed your typo - the cunning Yugoslavian dictator goes under cover.

I would have thought that most people of whatever gender or sexual identity, who would today be possessed of a repertoire of "practices" which, forty years ago, might have been described as "deviant" - including between mutually consenting adults - would now claim to be healthily engaging in the spice of life!

As a complaint forced me to rule on this - and in the interests of transparency - I would reference S-A's response, quoted. A non complainant gave me a dictionary definition of 'deviant' "a person whose behaviour, esp sexual behaviour, deviates from what is considered to be acceptable", I would suggest that S_A's 40-year rule excludes any specific meaning referring to gay people. On the contrary, recent news stories over the past year or so suggest that such "deviants" exist but they are not from the gay community; in a similar way, the most recent 'scandals' hitting the 'liberal fraternity - alleged against M'lord Rennard and an Honourable Member (whose photo, if I am not mistaken, was that posted above (or below), neither of them gay - could, if proven, rightly be regarded as 'sexual behaviour deviating from what is considered acceptable'.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Whatever one's morality, I suggest 'healthily' may be a very poor choice of adverb in some cases, S_A ...

Of course you are correct in your examples, but I trust you are not also inferring that it's only heterosexuals who are capable of being 'deviant', ff?

The use of the word 'deviant' does not necessarily imply any sexual activity, and the member who claimed he was 'offended' appears to have jumped to conclusions, and, furthermore, has never actually given his reasons here for apparently feeling so aggrieved.

'The member who claimed he was offended' aka Flossie, may well have been remembering the approbrium heaped upon gay men who contracted HIV in the 1980s and were told by the Methodist-turned-Catholic James Anderton, Chief Constable of Manchester that they were in a 'human cesspool of their own making’ in 1986, well within S_A's forty years.

Great was the joy in this household when his daughter came out as a lesbian.

It seems to happen a lot to bigots

It must have taken great courage for her to do that

Exactly, Scotty Celt and this is why I offer no apology to Flosshilde. The description seemed totally apt to me in light of the recent scandals involving such diverse "Liberals" as Chris Huhne and Cyril Smith. The Liberals are a part of hypocrites and the double standards on this board over the last couple of weeks has been staggering where Maggie has (rightly) been fair game and others seem beyond reproach. The whole point of the messageboard if to enjoy the rough and tumble of debate and to expound your views. If certain, sensitive people don't like this, I don't see why they are contributing to this message board. In my opinion, they have merely set themselves up as targets ready to be shot down as far as they poke their heads above the parapet.

The jazz message board has survived (in it's two forms) for about eight years with far more personal and direct criticism and I am not aware of anyone ever lodging a complaint or requesting an apology. If a few, delicate wallflowers get mildly offended through mis-reading something surely this is a price worth paying for healthy debate. In the non-cyber world the likes of Flosshilde would quickly be told where to go in the bluntest Anglo-saxon. Time for some people to grow up.

Especially given that you know that Flossie was offended, IT ...
