As an iTunes (and Mac) user, I'm slightly surprised that I don't understand any of the three posts in this thread so far...
What's "Match" ?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
OK thanks. I've declined to contract Apple 'upgrade-itis' and am very happy with my 10.6 configuration. Too often, Apple 'progress' seems the opposite. My favourite iPhoto is the 10.4 version on my old iMac...

No, with the greatest respect, you're missing the point. If anyone can get this to work, it's awesome! Whole iTunes library including CDs ripped to your library from your (or your friends') collection, stored in the cloud and available on your iPhone, iPad, MacBook etc, for £22 per annum!

hang on
who gets the money ?
So if I rip all my obscure experimental CDs and store them
then you can have them by paying Apple (who don't own them) £22
and the real people who need the money (Eddie Prevost , Colin Matthews etc etc ) get bugger all ?
That doesn't seem very ethical to me ?

I never looked at it like that. I feel awful.
P.S. does anyone know the remedy for the freezing problem on the 3rd stage of the download?
I think the best bit is that any tracks it is able to match "play back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality".
I've been meaning to sign up for the service but have yet to do so.

It took Apple ages to agree this with the record companies so I suspect that most of the £22 goes to said companies (so I'd still be surprised if the artists got to see any of it).
iTunes Match can at least be considered more ethical than some of the other 'music locker' services that ostensibly don't do the matching thing and operate without recording industry agreement under the premise that they don't require it.
