Let me invite you to a round in my golf-club - not a tweed in sight, nor a toff, as far as I know, but a darned tricky little course with views of the Hills of Donegal, Inch Island (an Irish tautology!) and the Lough known as the Lake of Shadows.
Let me add that I remember you quite well from a previous existence on the old message boards. You were always Julien Sorel, but I was PatrickOD - I changed my name to Padraig because I've taken up Irish for my sins and I'm trying to impress people. Yes, I particularly remember being mightily influenced by your musical choices and your recommendations. I can't recall them all now, but never far from my hand are two favourite discs that you suggested and which I value highly - Pavel Haas Quartet, Janacek String Quartet No 2, Intimate Letters; and Leipziger Streichquartett, Christiane Oelze, Schoenberg String Quartet No 2. I was hoping that you might get round to joining in some music discussions, and a few more pearls might come my way.

Oh Pish, and Tush! Why do people keep on trying to resurrect quarrels?

There was a series of cartoons (?) years ago, all along the lines of "The man who ...". There should be one for "The man who wrote 'post' instead of 'thread'". I'll get out the sackcloth & ashes.

Quite brilliant! Just what I needed.
I would leave the sackcloth and ashes right where they are pabs! Most of us knew exactly what you meant
Your thread has been quite the success, hasn't it?! It's become a sort of life-raft on choppy seas...
And I'm still chuckling about shb's light(-)bulb post

I love "The Lieutenant who took the Colonel's savoury" and "The Girl who asked for a glass of milk at the Café Royal"
