Since her invitation has been announced, one may assume that she will "honour" the invitation and grace the event with her presence.

    I couldn't possibly comment. Well, I suppose that I could, but I won't.

These last 20 posts (I have not accurately counted) are full of the sillyness of many of the ones on the MT thread....they are just more veiled and subtle....but still grinding axes....Why?....

Yes indeed Sir Velo ,I too once had another name (Rooooosta Sings ....Cecil)....I changed it....for a change of colour. And I think that's the reason for many changes....just because....no big deal....I don't think any of this Johnny come lately stuff is valid really (I don't know who SHB means and I have been on the boards as long). It is just that some of us know one another very well (or we at least think we do, and know their character traits they display in the invisible medium (as regards faces)....I PM 3 or 4 posters ocassionally....Simon for instance has been on the boards since 2006ish....What you notice , is when someone who is bullying another poster, and you know there is no truth in the accusations....you watch the twists and turns of a fracas....sometimes you butt in to support or vouch for the good or bad character (percieved) of the victim....

ED: I think there were another 10 posts while I was slowly dyslexically writing....

I'd assumed the singer in question to have been Charlotte Church.

Association of "church" and "funeral"?? Oh, never mind.

In that case, are you really saying that you consider, for example, that posts #202, #206, #208, #211, #213, #214, #218 and #219 fall into this category? If so, I have to say that this rather surprises me!

Well, I've not heard that she's been invited, although "that Charlotte" does sound a little like "that's yer lot" - or even "Thatcher lot", I suppose...

It has been the case in the past that these boards, and the R3s before them, have been targeted by various opportunists who come on just to rattle a particular cage, then disappear having caused a certain degree of discombobulation.

I was under the impression that I was witnessing such a cluster, in regard to the MT thread, and then the discussion about moderation in this place. The significant word there is 'impression'. Yes, I was voicing an impression. I even prefaced my remarks by conceding that they might be considered 'peevish'.

That some members took those remarks to heart is a matter for regret, but I was speaking in the general and we each have our own opinions in these matters.

In this case, I possibly made a bad call, but hardly so as you'd have me taken out and shot in the morning.

Anyway, in the spirit of Anna's remark above, I shall now withdraw from this particular thread.

                  Have a good weekend everyone!

Absolutely. I'm always puzzled when X says that Y is clearly the same person who used to post as A; I can never understand how they know. & if they are behaving themselves, & aren't trying to sneak in after having been banned, does it matter?

(I used to post as something else on the 'old' board, but I've forgotten what )

... and like S_A and ferney thought your light(-)bulb post was terrific In fact I keep reading it and chuckling more and more. Perfect....

...though I felt that an extra person should be added in 2013: our dear M. Vinteuil would enlighten us as to the etymological origins of the phrase "light bulb" and a link deriving from middle German with the French "ampoule"
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I daresay that most if not all of us can, but I thought that we weren't supposed to tell other members to "grow up"!...

Y is one of the worst offenders; and as for X.....

Last I heard of A, he or she had gone off to help change a light-bulb.

I was trying to use a blanket term....maybe I should have said Many of the post in the last 40 (I'm sorry my dyslexia gets bad if I have to go backward and forward)....sorry [as I said first para 'not counted accurately']

....but take yours [I promise I am not trying to make an issue]>>>And the manner in which they express it. That said, A_I_C is, I believe, entirely out of order in asserting that "there was no informed debate" in the thread; posts by Julien Sorel, Richard Barrett and Pabmusic alone (although there were plenty of others) were more than sufficient evidence of such informed debate; it was also evident that, in most cases, the questionable behaviour was down to certain posters and the informed debate down to others and very rarely if ever did the twain meet.

Perhaps if A_I_C has indeed ever run a forum, he will tell us about it... >>>

Now I agree with that, with what you say BUT during the MT post (and I admit I did the same, in my own fashion i.e similar fashion) in dealing with the posters you describe , you did it in vague hints and subtle sarcasm that they didn't get what you were saying....and so it continued....so while you were no a protagonist, you were a perpetuator....

There was a brief period, when 'moderation' on the old BBC Forum got rather out of hand, that a few of us (including, IIRC, both 'Anna' and myself), posted under temporarily adopted (and very obvious) new identities. I originally posted under my own name, I think, then changed to a pseudonym as encouraged by the BBC. I later went back to just my given forename. That was then purloined by another (a van demon) for a while. I eventually adopted the name "Nethersage" which remains appended to my avatar over at r3ok.com.

I sometimes posted on the old R3 MBs as "Vegetable Magic" I cannot remember now whether it was because I had briefly embraced vegetarianism or was just entranced by how the dark shine of aubergines and the dull glow of red peppers looked lovely in the fruit bowl set off by a bi-coloured swede! laugh: Oh well, it's Friday. Tomorrow all this will be a bad dream .......... hopefully!
