Why so much perplexity about this issue of forum content? The other thread, esp. at the beginning, was simply appalling. There was no informed debate, just sickening bile. As a reminder, look what spilled into this thread (#10). The thread should have been parked after about the first five pages of disgusting behaviour. Why didn't the moderators block this sort of content?

we can't have the proles saying what they like can we ?
That leads to anarchy we all know where that gets you ?
(CD's in the post faster than Amazon it would seem )
I thought #10 expressed really well what many people feel, sadness for feeling pleased at something you wouldn't wish on anyone and a belief in music ..........

Pardon me if I seem peevish but amongst the people being voluble in the discussion re: the forum pages are a number of names I've never seen before. Yes, blow-ins, telling us that it should be this, it should be that.
Well, thank you for your apparent concern, but since their inception by the Friends of Radio 3 these boards have, for the most part, run very smoothly.
This week's events are entirely without precedent and any fracas that has taken place here is akin only to the intense level of debate taking place in the wider world. This disturbance will pass and I, for one, would urge that no rash decisions are made to provide a contingency for an event the like of which is unlikely to recur.
Roll on Wednesday when we can put all this behind us.

Really, though, that is a silly idea (note that I say silly idea, not the idea of a silly person). From what I can see, a lot of the nastiness on "political" threads comes from a conflict between those who think he/she who shouts loudest is bound to be right, and those who think that assertions ought to be backed up by a bit of research and an attempt to investigate the facts - the former annoy the latter because, well, it's annoying; and the latter annoy the former who can't be bothered to do the research, are worried about what they may find, or regard their own opinions as trumping any facts. I don't think that would change fundamentally without declaring one subject of another off-limits, and I'm sure there are many of us who wouldn't have much interest in a forum with such restrictions.

But that is a matter of opinion. Again I might point out that it was the critical contingent also who were contributing facts and statistics to the discussion, as opposed to complaints of impropriety and unsupported anecdotes.

I assume that was why the thread was withdrawn - far too late though. If someone robs your house, you don’t say: “I disagreed with the burglar’s policy, of tying me to a chair. But I did admire his convictions.”

I am glad that Mrs T has died.
It's not big,it's not clever and I wish I wasn't glad, but I have my reasons and it is what it is.
As I hit here at my desk working from home, with my 8 year old best friend by my side (labrador btw)I am wondering why Rubbra's 8th symphony makes me cry.
