Ok, so its a bank holiday weekend. Religious observance fulfilled, it's time to start those little jobs that somehow haven't got round to doing themselves.
This board must be an absolute mine of useful info on drilling, tiling, shelf fixing and so on, so I thought a handy thread would be just the thing.
Personally, I am off to a bit of a flyer, having nicely fixed and straightened a rickety pickety fence,(day off in lieu) so I am feeling pretty smug ! Coat of green gunk tomorrow. (MP3 job, that.)

Got anything you have been putting off?
Do you feel overcome with inertia and despondancy when you visit B and Q?

Lets make this the place to help those repairs go just a little bit easier for fellow music lovers.
Then we can put our feet up with a glass of something cool, feeling a little bit self satisfied, and listen to a cheery CD, something like "Seven Last Words..." perhaps.

SOS - My weekend has just turned from a peaceful one, spending time with friends into a major DIY operation. Anyone know anything about getting rid of rats?

Put a lot of bird food out over these terrible winter months, but this encouraged rats and mice to eat the husks, and to migrate into an old stable block at the bottom of the garden, which I use for storage and a workshop. I have spent the morning clearing out part of the block and surveying the damage. One part of the block is relatively easy to treat, but the other part is insulated with a false floor. I suspect they may have burrowed under this false floor.

Be grateful to hear from anyone with similar experiences!

#6 Anna, for moss on drives I would use Roundup (glyphosate). It would be quite safe for wildlife providing you dont apply a surplus which runs off into the lawn or wherever, because it will kill all plants it touches. Choose a dry day and apply an even coating with something like a mop. Once it has been absorbed into the plants, they will die in a few days (its quite slow acting, especially at the moment when temperatures are so low).

Not sure about the "safe for wildlife" claim. Roundup is potentially harmful to insects, earthworms and spiders that come into contact with applied driveways/patios - possibly with a similarly slow-acting (ie painful) death for them.

More worrying, if it comes into contact with humans, there is good science suggesting that its [apparently not so] "inert" ingredients can adversely impact human health.
