Do remember that this survey is conducted by those paragons of truthfulness, Estate Agents.

From "Sullivan's Travels" by Preston Sturgess:

" they know what they like in Pittsburgh"

"if they knew what they liked in Pittsburgh, they wouldn't want to live in Pittsburgh!"

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

... the present-day equivalent to the ancient Romans' way of placating the plebs - "panem et circenses" - bread and circuses

well as everybody knows, London is a mad crazy place. No wonder they all move to Salisbury with the express intention of making us suffer on property prices like they had to......

Cheadle is nice, as i recall, also.

Needless to say it's one of the most pot-ugly places I've ever encountered ... and I did work there for a few months. In the pot-ugly stakes it is probably just pipped by Hartlepool and Greenock.

However the natives tend to be friendlier than their Mancunian neighbours and it is actually a very interesting town to shop, still boasting private little outlets where one can often find useful accessories which one might struggle to find in a large city. Physical fitness and strong footwear is essential, however, as one can experience almost vertical gradients in the process. It has an admirable little brewery in the centre of town and the Town Hall itself is one of the most civilised classical music venues in the country where one can down a pint and munch a pork/horse pie to stop one falling asleep to the sound of Brahms. Only the Italians do it better.

Alas the football team remains a huge problem but I can assure Edgeley Rob that this is not a huge problem confined only to Stockport. Indeed whole countries appear to be infected with the very same disease. On the brighter side, only a few miles up the rail-line at Wilmslow, one can now hardly move for tea-rooms and coffee-shops, though ER may need a full wallet and find the inhabitants there rather more "Vinteuilian" in outlook.

All in all Edgeley Rob is extremely fortunate and I'm not surprised he is so happy ...
