    Test Your Vocabulary

Knowing how much boarders enjoy a quiz, here's a vocabulary test against which to measure oneself. Salutary to note that the age groups with the lowest scores are the under 18s and the 20-30 bracket. FWIW, yours truly scored a paltry 4,080 which I expect to be duly slaughtered by the Forum's brainboxes.

My best was 3760 of four attempts - but, yes, I didn't make a mistake.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I managed 3720 - it's the interplay between speed and accuracy

four attempts, and my best was 3760.

              Edit :
ooh, ooh, got up to 3860 this time.

However on one question I was very slow and still got a speed bonus of 160......Hmmmmm.......

                I had bloviate and congeries...

                New ones on me!

                I abandoned that effort!

Next time I knew them all and I got 3940...

This is hugely skewed, is it not? There's a timing element built in. I'm sat at home, just the wrong end of a bottle of wine and approaching midnight, and not landing a space shuttle, so where does my trigger finger come in to play?!

3680, 10/10 right (but at midnight after a 5-hour drive – and don’t we old codgers get a handicap for the speed thingy?). Tut-tut, must try harder tomorrow. (Or maybe not )

Got to say you had rotten luck with congeries and, what was it, bloviate?

No, my main intention in posting the link was - no, not to show off - but to draw attention to the shockingly poor average score for the 20-30s. No, of course the results aren't scientific, but given the mind is meant to be at its supplest, and most agile at that age, this is truly a pisspoor effort. Probably not helped by their complete misuse of words such as "random" and "awesome".
