    No way!

    That said, I do sometimes wonder, given the infrequency of my suffering colds etc when I did smoke, and the frequency since giving up, if the germs that came along took one look inside me and told themselves, no way are we going in there!

      Looks like I'll have to get in a bottle of standard Bushmills then. I'm not using my 10 year for that. Oh, hang on though, I haven't got the sniffles. I will wait until I have.

        I do wonder whether showering every day is a good thing though - http://www.mnn.com/health/fitness-we...need-to-shower That, and similar articles, suggest that there might be more skin problems with over frequent showering - and I'm now wondering whether taking baths and showers can have other disadvantaged healthwise. I'm not suggesting reverting to the "one bath a year - only if necessary days" - but possibly we do manage to upset some forms of natural balance by too much attention to cleanliness

        There is evidence - apparently - that children who get exposed to more dirt are much less likely to suffer from allergies.

          Since I gave up smoking a few years ago I have developed asthma and seem to have been suffering from a continuous chest infection.

            That apart, keep the cold away from the ears at all costs. I had a really miserable time trying to shift it when it got badly into mine and it took about 4 months for normality to return.
            I remember Beecham's Powder having a distinctive spice flavour, though whether cinnamon or clove I cannot recall, and this list of ingredients does not help:

              This could be a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc. What other things might have changed - moved house, internal decorations, carpets, given up work, taking walks in the country etc.? You have my sympathy anyway. I don't think I have asthma myself, but I've seen what it can do to others in my family, and one friend died of it. I've also become much more sensitive to some allergens myself.

              Take care!

                  No it isn't but only because the majority of body shower gels contain huge quantities of SLS which strip the skin of all natural oils.

                        SLS = Sodium Laurel Sulphate.

                          Thanks Dave.

                          All self inflicted unfortunately.
                          If I'd given up the ciggies earlier, when I was TOLD to,then all might be different.
                          Still health problems are manageable and under control, could be worse.

                            Lauryl, surely?

                              It's that time of year again and, like clockwork, the usual cough and cold has arrived. It's been going round the workplace like wildfire so it was inevitable, I suppose. The cinnamon powder didn't do much good then!

                              This particular nasty started, not as a sore throat, but as an evil chesty cough - good job no concerts to go to - and, rather strangely, moved upwards. Currently fighting a desperate rear-guard action to prevent ear blockage, so far with success.

                              Anyone else blighted by bugs?
