Divine intervention through sympathetic saintly intercession had occurred to me, vinteuil ...

However, I thought it wise to retain some degree of silence in espousing the theory for the fear of worsening the health of forum members even more.

I'm tempted to pass on to CDJ some advice once given to me regarding one's health.

Well ,the season for sniffles, man flu, coughs colds and other associated nastiness seems to be well and truly upon us again.
Quite a bit of it going round here, and worse than that, I've got one . ( not too bad , about 3or 4 out of 10 on the Man Flu scale)

Need to get it shifted fast though, as I have a concert ticket for Weds night, and I really dont want to miss it for some annoying low grade virus.

              Quick recovery tips welcome !

No particular tips. Perhaps the best thing is to do nothing, keep warm, and take it easy. I think the general view is that these plagues are generally due to viruses, so not much you can do except wait for them to go away. However, you may get run down, and then other problems - maybe bacterial - can get an edge, so try to avoid that happening.

For comfort - if congested Lemsip or equivalent may help - though don't over do those, and do avoid Paracetamol overdose - since that's an ingredient of most of the powder things.

If a runny nose becomes a problem, then antihistamines should help - and maybe reduce the chances of you passing the bugs on to others.

Good luck with this - I've been trying to manage my own for a while.

You don't sound like you want the tip to stay in on Weds night - give or sell the ticket to someone else, but it's an option.

                Where's the concert?

                  thanks for the advice Dave.
Did you mention scotch at all ?

Funny one this, it appeared really suddenly yesterday, after I had been feeling rather tired all week, ( as a consequence giving up a concert I wanted to go to on Thursday night.)
So, no, I don't want to give up on weds night yet , thanks !! Basingstoke is the concert, Rach 4 and Pictures at an Exhibition.
Hope your own bug is In full retreat .

Rachmaninov 4 isn't played too often - so could be worth going out for. What's the Anvil hall like? Good?

What was the concert you missed? Also in Basingstoke?

No whisky tonight - probably damson gin!

Good luck with keeping your lurgy at bay.

THe Anvil? good I suppose for a provincial town, acoustics seem decent. The hall is probably not quite as good as the posters round town suggest. very well located, right next to the station, where there are plenty of late trains, and easy for parking too.
Its a really excellent season this year, ( or is it just things I fancy hearing?) little outside of core rep, perhaps there isn't an audience for wider repertoire in the 'stoke. Tickets do tend to be a bit on the expensive side, ( lots of seats are nearly £40), but there are always some at under £15, so you just need to book early if you want a budget night out.
The one I missed was Schubert 9 and the Berg VC at the RFH last week. I was hoping to get there as I was supposed to be in London working, so it was opportunistic rather than high on the wish list !

not feeling too bad this morning, so hopeful for weds. The Rach 4 with Trifnov ( after his rave reviews on this board) was really the clincher, looking forward to it.

If you take something for it - will last 48 hours. If you don't it will last 2 days. However it seems that the older you get the longer it will linger. No help really just live with it 'till it goes!

sounds like an old Yorkshire saying to me !!
You'd have thought I would have heard them all, with my family background, ( Grandparents from Bradford, Dad born in Halifax, Mrs TS born in Huddersfield......)
