One the boons of being anti-social is that I hardly ever catch anything....no grandkids, so no germs....

My experience is that you have to feel sorry for yourself - no one else will feel sorry for you

I thought I was starting a cold on Sunday - it has developed but not into a real horror. Just enough to leave me feeling a bit lacking in energy, & with a slight but irritating cough. I thought I'd had my ration this winter, barely being without one from the middle of October to the end of December.

And I've had a very sore throat, aching ears and coughing fits that keep me awake in the night. But after about 12 days I'm fed upwith it. I rang surgery, was told to drink lots of water. Wow, I'd never thought of that.

Sorry to hear it Calum - it won't cure but I really find Echinacea a real help - anything starting with me usually shows itself first in the throat and Ecky three times a day really helps sort me out. Seems to sort my daughter out too.

I was beginning to feel smug last week, no colds this winter ! Then a little tickle began. Still, it isn't getting any worse I thought, and then came the onslaught, sore throat, wracking cough, painful chest, sleep loss and that awful soggy feeling of not wanting to be bothered with anything much. As I had no temperature I couldn't even tell people it was 'flu, and we should at least be able to do that if it feels awful!

I'm just about OK today after ten days of it. Off to the RFH for some Lutoslawski tonight, I promise not to cough.

A recent Food Programme was about garlic, & one person said that his wife (not from the UK) swore by a clove of garlic used as a suppository overnight to get rid of colds. I tgried it, but can't say that it made any difference.

Didn't get any visits from vampires, though

Ditto being retired - no more catching things from people bravely struggling to work so they can distribute their germs fairly round the office

I don't think it matters whether you're naked or not, Ferret, just where you put it

                            Ditto cycling to work...

The ability to not use public transport is a boon. It doesn't save one from office-based infection, but I think the fresh air and exercise help, coupled with vitamin C + zinc immune vitamins everyday.

The only cold I've had in the last 3 or 4 years was last August caught off an infected French person staying at home
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
