As one who's awaiting delivery of his club tie, I concur !

Greetings Rob. I've been absent for a while, though not for health reasons. I have read your own health report here and I'd like to try to reassure you. At 58 I too sprouted a dodgy ticker; had the surgery for blocked arteries, got the medication, took it faithfully and I'm still here, without relapse, and feeling fine. They have come on since my time - 1994 - so I expect you'll be well used to your new condition by the time they toast your good health at your retirement party. I confess, though, that I'm not as cocky at 80 as I was as a fine young man of 58, so my chances of another score or so are not quite as good as yours.
I see you have another organ piece to enjoy at AoB - I am trying to catch up since my computer rebelled last August. I finally got round to getting a new one. Sigh.

Back to work tomorrow after a week off. Spent a couple of days visiting daughter in Berlin , which was lovely. A very civilised city to live and work in, compared to some I could mention !

Music chat on the forum seems a bit quiet at the moment.
I recommend a listen to Schoeck's second string quartet for those who fancy something new, if you don't know it. A really excellent work IMO.

That's my impression too. There's a sense perhaps of everyone perhaps taking a pause before the Proms frenzy starts... A week Wednesday I think, the announcement? Also Easter &c preoccupations, family etc - certainly the case here, and your Berlin trip. I've loved visits to Berlin. Need to go again.

Spent a day at Brands Hatch yesterday, various exciting four-wheeled vehicles flying around. Extraordinary weather, seemed like at least 3 seasons in 10 hours. Arriving in rural Kent before 8am I was extremely glad of my ‘coldest cycling weather’ clothing, two layers of outer garments… By 1pm they were a right pain as in the warm sun, there was no need for either layer (and although I had wisely taken my cap in case of sun, there was no suncream so I have bright sides to the head near the ears OUCH). And then by 5, downpours leading to a pirouetting lottery on-track but leaving one thoroughly damp and cold despite garments in the chilly wind.

Oh yes... no work tomorrow!

Berlin? thoroughly recommended, and apart from the obvious trip to hear the BPO, I'd recommend saving some of your retirement package for a trip here:

Am not joining in the Classical Association thread this year. To think poor Roehre felt obliged to quit the forum on account of that thread!

I like assembling a pool of discs to listen to over the Christmas Holiday. Tchaikovsky string 4tets are in there and that new Rachmaninov 1 appeals. Any ideas for a Lyrita CD or two?

What's happened to Mr Pee? Does Sky Arts have any classical on now?

Yes I joined just now before I could stop myself, but agree with you I'll try to break the habit.

Yes...I've set it to record Goldberg (piano, Alexander Tharaud) on Tuesday. Belcea B'hoven string qartets getting some repeats. Other odds and ends, you have to go through the small print in RTimes
