Evening Alison, ts, ER and all other Sunday nighters.

It's back to work and reality for me after last Thursday's excellent Barbican concert. Everybody moans about how awful January is but it pays to do something about it and make it a lot less awful by going to a cracking concert! It's back to the office to find out what work should have been done and doubtless a long list of e-mails to deal with. I usually get about 25 or so with a day off so two days off will need the morning to sort out.

Looking forward to catching Simon Rattle's CBSO Beethoven cycle on R3 when I get back home. The DVD recorder is already pre-set in case of any untoward delays on the train!

Evening Pet , workers , and others .

totaaly agree with you plan to cheer up january Pet, what better than a great concert or two to help us through to spring.
Loved the Rattle concert, and just booked up to see the BSO in ten days time, Schumann 2 the big attraction there.

i can pop up to london for the evening, so just the regular email tally for me tomorrow , hopefully !!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Just having a quick look at the NFL championship games....always good to see Green Bay doing well. A community owned club in a place about the size of Huddersfield taking on the big city giants. fantastic stuff.
( American football, for those who are unclear !!)

          Good evening everyone.

Sounded like that was a cracking concert guys.
          25 e mails a day Pet ? is that all ? luxury

January is the crappest month although it seems to be passing quickly, over half way through already.

I used to travel back from London on the same night many years ago but getting back at 2am and up at 6am isn't something I can do now I'm older. Taking a couple of days off every concert trip is very nice and restful but eats into the holiday allocation. I've thought about taking a half day off on day 1, go down in the afternoon then take half a day off on day 2 and go into work in the afternoon but it's no fun doing that.

              Evening all

To be honest I don't have a problem with January at all. Somehow our car is now driving in the direction of Spring.

I'd expect LSO/Rattle to be a pretty formidable combo for all that the BPO era seems often to have disappointed.

              Chin up for tomorrow Pet.

Hope you're all feeling upbeat on this midwinter evening.

A trip to Chelmsford City racecourse was planned for this afternoon until my very hardy cousin opined it was too cold. She was right and we had a nice lunch out in the country instead.

I've been listening to the 2015 New Year concert this week and car journeys have been really rather uplifting. Even so listening to the Barenboim from last year was to encounter a more consistently gripping and touching experience.

Interesting stuff re the Eroica. I must seek out the old Richard Hickox set mentioned a few weeks ago.

                  Hi Alison and others

can't really blame anybody for ducking out of the races in this weather. Is that point to point?

Bitof a DIY day here. renovating some old shelves.......zzzzzzzzzzzz.....still, nearly done, and they look good.

and then the Saints muck up....and make it worse by getting a red card....still that is footy for you. Another game next week.

Been enjoying lots of Baroque music, inspired by a documentary about Rameau's operas on SKY....and ordered a big box of DVDs with an Xmas voucher. Should be fun !!

                  Work tomorrow...

No it's flat racing on an artificial all weather surface. The racecourse has only just reopened, six years after the original administration went bust within 8 months of the brand new course opening.

Not at SMS then Sainty? You have to hand it to Swansea, they do come out of their dodgy patches before panic sets in.

Vital game for Foxes against Palace next Saturday. I like Alan Pardew though.

Ah, I'm very out of touch with racing...thought it was a funny place for P2P !!

Not my week for the tickets, Alison. Yup, Swansea did well, can't complain if you don't score at home. Disappointed at the sending off though.

                        Dougie Freeman for Forest?

Can't get too excited about the transfer window stuff. Sky rather overdo it don't you think?

Did I spot a Division One game at 18:00 today?

Popular at Palace but iffy at Notlob. I can't believe Forest fans would would be too enthusiastic. Made a good decision not to join son and daughter at Selhurst Park yesterday as an appetiser for ROH Andrea Chénier in the evening. My wife is German and was keen to see the Sigmar Polke at Tate Modern, so we wandered down there in the afternoon - a very thorough retrospective on an interestingly eclectic artist. Great show in the evening. Kaufmann is a stupendous singer, but we found the character he was playing rather less interesting than his adversary, Gérard, the "villain" with misgivings.

No grandkids, so lazed around after a busy day yesterday. Tiny bit of clearing up in the garden until several fingers turned white in the North wind and I retreated inside. Watched Swansea's smash and grab job on Saints in some amazement and have just listened to Aldo Ciccolini, having read about his death elsewhere on here. I went for him accompanying Nicolai Gedda in some French songs.

TBF, Swansea were probably due some luck against us, we have had the rub of the green against them in the last couple of games.

My oldest lad flew out to Brazil on a work trip today, his first ever trip abroad on his own , () and I tracked the flight all the way !! He is there safely, and its raining...its the rainy season !!

very exciting for him, being a football nut I think it would have been his first choice of place to go....had to let him have the Saints result when he landed of course....
