I guess we have all been tired and weary in the run up to Christmas.

Where did all that effort really get us?

Yes a cdful Christmas thanks Robbo.

I can almost feel Gerontius coming on again .. . A wonderful new version! What stirring melodies.

Will take another look at the footie thread now. We're still in a dire posi but how good a win feels.

              good evening Sunday Nighters.
Luckily for me no work this week. Hope its nice and quiet at work for anybody who has to go in, and that the bosses are out of the way. They usually are at holiday time !

Lots of lovely CDs for me, at least I expect they are lovely, but lots of family here, so serious listening a bit limited.

I am in a bit of a Schubert groove right now,( which happens quite often) although I feel that a deeper delve into Bach, especially the instrumental works, is due in 2015.

Perhaps I should set out a schedule.
              2015...

              More Bach
              Villa Lobos
              Rouse

and so on and so on.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

You do like your Rouse Sainty!

Btw, have you got the Wigglesworth Mahler 10? You must get it if you haven't.

I need to hear more Rouse !! The symphonies may, perhaps, lack a touch of subtlety at times, but the excitement just keeps on coming. And somebody needs to get the third and fourth Symphonies recorded !! Not sure why Alan Gilbert hasn't recorded them yet . Suffolk Coastal is a big Rouse fan, I think .

Yup, I have the Wigglesworth 10, Alison my only complete version, though I have just ordered the Olson that Beefy recommends...still going cheap !!

Evening ts, ER, Alison and anyone else.

'Fraid it's back to work for me tomorrow Not much of a break is it? It's our financial year end so it's never as quiet as you expect it to be though, as you say, the boss isn't in until Weds.

Right chuffed with myself right now as I managed to get 1st and 2nd in yesterday's Welsh Grand National at Chepstow. It was a photo finish but as I'd gone each way on both I couldn't lose! £130 found it's way into my wallet! Things must be looking up as I got three winners previous Saturday.

Got loads of CDs for Christmas many of them bought by myself but nothing wrong in that. I managed 63 CDs but Pastoralguy made 127 which must be the Forum record - unless you know different.

I've already been back to work on Saturday morning. Three days this week starting tomorrow then five days off.

I'm quite envious of the Saint but with some fine music to spin and a Leicester victory to celebrate life ain't so bad.

                      Must explore Rousey in 2015.

As for Bach, well, this composer has really got a grip of me this last few months and won't let go,which is good.
Currently can't get enough of the organ music ...

A Happy New Year, Alison. Call me an old misanthrope if you like but I discovered the freedom of no social commitments on New Year's Eve (not to mention the Christmas office party) long ago. Both can be embarrassing occasions which I'm happy to live without.

Been working today (and very busy too) but we were let out at 4pm so had the unexpected delight of a walk to the railway station in daylight!

Yes I have been at work too but off for a few days now. I suppose some parties were better than others but I have never looked forward to the midnight hour on NYE with all the protracted embraces and associated discomfort. Two years ago tonight I cried off a party as I felt unwell and the host was so cross with me thinking that I had fabricated my symptoms to allow me to go to an alternative bash ! This year I was determined to stay commitment free, to let down nobody and do as I please.
