      Evening all,

No grumpiness this Sunday night what with Bank Holiday tomorrow. Had a nice little win on the horses yesterday (Joyeuse at Haydock 4/1, was clearly going to win before the race even started) not much of a price but made a profit. Had winners two weeks in a row now so things are finally looking up.

60th birthday looming in 11 days time and applied for my Senior Railcard online earlier this evening. There's no looking back now is there? Already bought the Kubelik Symphonies Edition for myself even though I already have the Mahler included in it. Anyone wanting the Kubelik Mahler box, just PM me and you can have it free, gratis and for nothing.

Would ideally have preferred to go to see Haitink and the COE at the Barbican on the day itself but instead going out for a meal with family. Out with friends on the following night for another meal. Got no idea who's paying.

Been wondering about this. I've got a few Schumann sets already and this new one isn't all that competitively priced. I'm thinking of waiting to see what else turns up on the new BPO label. Some live Karajan and Abbado performances would be nice. I hope they go down the same road as the excellent LPO series and issue archive recordings alongside new ones.

I can't wait to receive the live 1982 Solti Missa Solemnis on the LPO label out next week. I was present at that Prom on what was an unforgettable day for me and lobbied Laurie Watt to see it issued. Of all live concerts at which I've been present this was the one I wanted most so enormous thanks to LW for over-seeing this release.

How interesting. Was that in the penultimate night slot? And I have a pretty good Missa Solemnis under Eschenbach on the same label.

For some reason I suddenly remembered going to a Prom Missa Solemnis in the unlikely venue of Westminster Cathedral. I had to check that my memory had not deceived me.

Recorded on September 10 1982 and yes it was the penultimate night. I went backstage after the concert and met all of the soloists as well as Solti. They all signed my programme and it's a prized possession.

                Good evening workers.
Sorry I missed the usual sunday night pint and chin wag, been catching up with stuff after a week away.

Pet,that sounds like a really great event. Those really special nights stay vividly in the memory. Time I got round to doing the Missa Solemnis properly. Hoping to catch it at the late night Prom this year.
Good to see that you are starting to pick winners again. Just occasionally you just know for sure that a horse is going to win.......

                  Wondered where you were Sainty!

Nearly bought Elgar 2 Barenboim this morning. Delighted to find it available at a local store for 9.99 yet not really in the mood for the second symphony just now.

Suddenly it's back to normal tomorrow ...

                      Any Sunday nighters about?

Rather a big week coming up for me as I have my 60th birthday on Thursday. Goodness knows how I've managed to make it but here we are! It feels much more of a milestone than 40 or 50 ever did and I approach it with some trepidation. I'm off work Thursday and Friday as I have a family meal planned for the Thursday and another meal out with friends on Friday. In my heart of hearts I really would have preferred to be at the Haitink concert on Thursday but it would have been selfish to have ignored family especially when we have all become so much closer following my father's death last November.

On the bright side, I have my Senior Railcard (which will get a lot of use) and free prescriptions beckon. Alas, they will get a lot of use as well.

Hope to find some boxed sets among the presents!

Off to bed in a minute, just been enjoying some Alwyn again. Superb stuff.

Nice short 3 day week for you Pet, and hopefully that stack of boxes to unwrap on the big day.
Funny things those big birthdays.I found my 50th a couple of years ago was more significant that I expected, but in a quite positive way. I think our absent friend lateral thinking, (come back lat) found the same thing.

World cup fever beginning to build here, haven't got my wall chart up yet though, and mrs TS has banned me from hanging flags out of the windows.

                          Good evening all.

                          Alison is out clubbing.

                          Birthday wishes to you Pet,enjoy.

We had a big family do last night.
My youngest brother and family emigrate to NZ this week so there was a farewell party.
Plenty of reminiscing, beer and a bit of sadness, big adventure ahead for them.

This afternoon I gave my daughter and eldest grandson a lift to the Etihad stadium, they went to see one direction in concert.
They forced me to have on of their cds on in the car.

World cup fever here too, with flags.

Don't forget your homework this week,COTW Weinberg,I'll be testing you next Sunday..

It's a big decision to take and hope that all are going for it 100% without any doubts. An aunt and uncle sold their house and emigrated to Australia in 1988. My aunt was terribly homesick for months and as time has marched on has missed out on family births and deaths etc. Couldn't do it myself. Our weather may be rubbish but still couldn't do it.
