Thoroughly enjoyable weekend and I have Schumann Piano Trios for my car journeys this week.
Nice to see a new season commence at Salisbury racecourse.
Lucky you having a three day week. Back behind the desk tomorrow for me with plenty to do and not wanting to do it.
Been having a spring clean frenzy today but can't see much difference.
I'd like to know why we can't have some decent horse racing on when it's a Bank Holiday? It's a golden opportunity to bring in the crowds and a really good card offering decent prize money plus TV coverage will stop me having a spring clean frenzy if nothing else."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

3 looking like a good number what with the Trios, and the result at palace.
amazed to hear Pet say there was no decent racing today.
Didn't they get a massive crowd for the Good Friday meeting at (?)Lingfield ?I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

The quality was pretty mediocre today but I dare say the courses will all have attracted decent crowds. I can find interest in all but the most dismal of flat cards.
Yes a new Race meeting at Lingfield was staged on Good Friday this year which was a resounding success with a sell out crowd but no terrestrial tv coverage.

Assume you won't be seeing Her Maj if you are at work? I've stood by her twice (once at Derby railway station, I kid you not) and it's alarming how small she is but she does seem to have cut back on engagements recently so Chelmsford are perhaps lucky to get her there. It is a disgrace how Bank Holiday racing has declined over the last 20 years and both Channel 4 and the BHA have allowed this to happen .
When I was a kid in the 1970s and 1980s we had
1 Kempton's Rosebery Stakes meeting on Easter Monday
2 On May Day bank Holiday the Jubilee Handicap at Kempton when it was still a proper race and a valuable 1m 2f handicap at Doncaster that one year Sea Chimes who went on to win the Coronation Cup won - and 3 yo conditions race that saw Dubai Millennium win .
3 Spring Bank Holiday had a terrific meeting at Sandown with the Brigadier Gerard and Temple Stakes and Redcar put on the Vaux Gold Tankard and Zetland Gold Cup( the latter remains but a weak race now )
4 August bank Holiday had Virginia Stakes day at Newcastle- a race that Oaks winners used to run in .
Nowadays - wall to wall dross and nothing on the TV. Those races have either disappeared , been moved to other days or become a light of former years.
