    Enough of all that.

The Champion Hurdle looks a really interesting race this year.
The festival seemed to take ages to come round in the New Year but we're virtually there already. Astonishing.
Betting at Cheltenham is a punter's nightmare usually but last year was a bonanza for me and I think for others too. All too often horses that did nothing all year suddenly take on a new lease of life at Cheltenham and win at massive odds. Irish horses no-one noticed often do this.

In my green days, I had a tip on a horse from its owner via a mutual acquaintance (better not say which horse) but when I got to Cheltenham I saw the odds were 22/1. I dismissed it out of hand - but the damn thing won!!! Had my head in my hands for the rest of the day. I heard later that the owner had put £1000 when odds were 40/1! That's the way to do it!

I just fancy Our Conor is going to come up trumps in the Champion Hurdle.

Great evening! Great results from the Yorkshire Regional qualifying round for the National brass band Championships of GB, yesterday, as far as the Champsionship Section goes! 1 Brighouse & Rastrick(a great result since their courrent conductor took over. Grimethorpe 2nd, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery band 3rd and Black Dyke only managed a fourth placing, whichb seems to be the norm! Shockl horror!

Evening, Rob, and all Sunday nighters. A very nice day indeed here, went out in my Berghaus as usual to find it was much too warm for it.

All seems set fair for Cheltenham races this week. I had a 7/1 winner on Saturday giving me some useful betting money for when I go on Friday. Looking very much forward to another Friday off work.

Listened to my first work by Weinberg this evening - the Cello Concerto, a haunting work, and think I'm going to like this composer. Thanks for the enthusiasm!

Evening. Another weekend gone in a flash.

I hope Gurney is still speaking to me !! think Palace will avoid the drop.
Lets hope the weather stays this lovely, and Melodiya decide this is the week for a mass reissue on CD of all those Russian LPs !!

Edit: Have a great day a Cheltenham Pet, and hope you get a winner or two.

Collet's record shop on Charing Cross Road (it's now a Superdrug) used to have a good selection of Melodiya LP's back in the day. I picked up a few from there as well as in the Beriozka shops in Moscow, mostly Tchaik and DSCH. Made a special point of going to see their location in Moscow while there in 1982 but can't remember much about it.

                      A quick posting before bedtime.

Bad luck in North London Sainty.

Just listened to the Maazel Strauss concert again. Feeling much fresher tonight I was nevertheless still worn down by the general over emphasis in the performances. There seems to have been this dogged quality to LM's conducting for some while now.

Still here .. and speaking. Injury time goals to lose 1-0 can be enough to ruin a weekend. Saints suffered a simliar fate. Otherwise the weekend was OK, starting well on Friday with a chamber concert at the Wilts Music Centre in Bradford on Avon, followed by an excellent pint - Sarum IPA - from a new brewery to me. I managed a bit of gardening between violent hailstorms and continued my voyage of discovery into Sibelius songs with Tom Krause and Elisabeth Söderström.

                                Good evening SNC.

Hope your weekend weather has been as gorgeous as it has been round here. Brilliant, and a nice day out at the footy for me yesterday. (Sorry BBM). mixed fortunes for the board teams, but the foxes are almost there.

Been working my way through some of the Harmonia Mundi 30 CD " Music of the Enlightenment " set. If you need to buy a pressie for somebody whose music collection needs bulking up THIS is it. Great music and performances, and a worthy gift, beautifully presented.
I've a couple of days off , heading to Brussels on the Eurostar (a train under the sea, how good is that !!!!), where I hope to see the museum of musical instruments and the Jaques Brel foundation, amongst other things. Oh yes, and seeing sprog's Uni Wind orchestra play while we are there too !! Priorities sorted .
