I hate clock watching and planning exit strategies at these bashes. You'd do anything to be at home with the simple pleasures of putting on a CD or contributing to the forum!

what a pity you Sunday nighters weren't at my Works do on Friday. We could have played some cool music (possibly) and nattered about music over a friendly drink.
Anyhow, my works do wasn't too bad, they are mostly a young and friendly crowd, but not my first choice of night out. The company have given us a day and a half extra hols over xmas, so its not a bad price to pay.

The problem with these office Christmas bashes is that you have very little, if anything, in common apart from work with the people there and conversation dries up very quickly. The other minus point is that you can't stand most of them anyway. Don't know why I put up with them for so many years but haven't been to one for quite some time now and won't be going to one in the future.

The whole thing has become quite overblown (and with the candidate list rigged).

It also propagates the universal BBC thesis that no-one interested in sport has any musical taste.

Listening time is much more difficult as the holiday season comes around.

For the first time this century I've managed to get Christmas Eve off. In the old days my employers (not noted for their generosity, let it be said) made every employee save half a day holiday so that we could finish at 12 noon. To be honest, I preferred this to what we do now which is that it's a normal working day until the bosses say we can go - which can be, and has been, as late as 16.00. There's no point in making any plans if you are at the whim of the bosses unless you can save a whole day's holiday as I have done. The problem has always been that everybody fights to get days off at Christmas.

Back in the office on Friday, the 27th and 30th and 31st.

Annual carol service done for another year.

It's a tradition I started in the early nineties: that is to listen to Mahlers Seventh on the evening of the Sunday before Christmas. This year the honoured performers were Michael Gielen and his Baden Baden orchestra.

I don't know if you have any odd quirks like this?!

Yes, I always play Bruckner 8 on the evening before my birthday. This tradition started in 1979 just two weeks before I went to see Karajan and the BPO perform the work, hence I always play one of Karajan's versions.
