Cooling down with some ice-cold Sibelius, Symphony No 1, Helsinki PO/Berglund, picked up in a charity shop yesterday. Twofer with symphonies 1-4 for £2.00!
Great performance and recording of No 1 this so will now have to get the other twofer of symphonies 5-7 which wasn't there.
Pondering how best to spend my accumulated winnings which amount to £600 since Cheltenham. I badly need a new laptop as I still haven't replaced the clapped-out one I'm using now. Then I want the Karajan 70s set and Haitink the Philips Years box but am concerned about the level of duplication in both. Then the Proms are coming up soon....
Better hope I keep winning!"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

Can't let our lovely Sunday night get togethers be swamped in the rough and tumble of general chat !!
Long weekend of wedding stuff and travelling for me, soothing head with some lovely British chamber music.
Weather can stay like this as long as it likes !!I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Discs of the week.Good idea.
I tend to have musical listening projects on the go, on varying timescales.
Robert Simpson, Myaskowsky, Batrok SQs, Schumann Piano Music are just some on the go right now. So no disc of the week for me, but more an attempt to keep moving on those "projects".I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Proms begin this week and have my first visit next Monday for the Bamberg SO/Nott Mahler 5. CD playing takes a back seat until the season is over but CD buying carries on regardless and by September I will have a mountain of discs, mostly, it must be said, second-handers from the London shops. Still have some to listen to from last year!
My disc of last week was the Sibelius symphonies 1-4 in an EMI Gemini twofer, Berglund/Helsinki PO. Charity shop purchase for £2. Great performances here.Last edited by Petrushka; 07-07-13, 21:46."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
